Chance to get in and other advice?

I'm currently a senior applying for Fall 2012 and I want to major in Computer Science.

My SAT score is 2010/2400 and my GPA is about 3.7. I'm not sure how badly I'll be doing in Physics C AP and Calc B/C AP this year.... ):

I've gotten a 5 and a 4 on my Chem AP and AP Lang exams, respectively.

I don't know if my ECs are that strong but I've done Interact Club (4 yrs), Leo Club (4 yrs), French Club (3 yrs), Swimming (3 yrs), Marching Band (2 yrs), and a few other clubs too, but the application only allows room for 5 main ones.

For the volunteer section of the application though, I'm at a loss for what to put down! I've done plenty of volunteer work, but it's all been for the school clubs I've mentioned above.

Besides just chances, I need some advice on my major. :/ I've had honestly close to no prior knowledge or education in the field, but I really want to go into it. Would it be difficult to take and what classes should I be aiming to get into? Someone I know told me I shouldn't go for just Comp Sci. but to try and get Business too somehow?

Haha, ANY help at all would be wonderful, as I am an overwhelmed newbie.

Currently dying here. omgcollegeessaywritingseasssonnn.....

I take it you’re applying to School of Arts and Sciences and Business School.
You’re definitely getting in to SAS, which has Computer Science, no doubt about that.
Business, i don’t know specifically, but you have a good chance of getting in.
You should also apply to School of Engineering, it has a Computer Engineering major if you’re really into computer programming and electrical engineering combined. You have all the requirements for it and a good chance of getting into that one as well. You just have to teach yourself some computer programming if you want to get a good feel of it.
I recommend looking for free resources online to learn the Java language if you’re only interested in Computer Science at SAS. It’s also helpful for Computer Engineering, but the language they teach in is MATLAB.
As far as the application goes, only put down the volunteer work you feel is most significant to you or applies most to your career path or personal development. Keep your essay moderately short and direct. If 3.7 is your unweighted GPA, they’re probably not going to weigh your essay that much.

Your stats are very similar to mine, i had a higher SAT and GPA, but your ec’s are outstanding and waaaaay better than mine haha. you should have no trouble getting into SAS, and you will most likely get into business as well, if you can get your SAT up just a little bit more you should have absolutely no problems at all

Edit- I’m currently a frosh at RU… just to clarify

asianshawty is right on with your GPA and SATs. As far as extracurriculars go, you’re beyond fine. Rutgers doesn’t really care that much about them; as long as you did one club/sport, it seems that they just check off a box and move on to the next category.

hey I think u have everything to get into Rutgers! I want to go to RU NB for the psych.
