whats ur GPA and Class Rank? With this though, it looks like you have a decent shot at these colleges

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/752367-chance-me-engineering-colleges.html

My school doesn’t rank.
Unweighted GPA: 3.89

Wow CC’s very active. In one day this post went into the third page…

get a research internship if you can. Other than that, it sounds like you’ve pretty much done all you can. Thanks for filtering out all the junk from your resume lol.

You have great scores and good ECs. I think you’ve done pretty much all you can do to make yourself a competitive applicant at these schools. Good luck!

Ethnicity?

You have solid scores and ECs. That being said though those schools are still reach as they are for everyone/anyone. NU is definitely better chance though.

Ethinicity: Asian

Yeah I hate reading through all the junk people post so I only wrote what I really thought was good.

I agree those schools are basically unpredictable even for the best applicants, but I’m hoping I would get into at least one of them. :)

Anyone else have anything to say?

The colleges will figure out your rank. Your ECs are going to make the schools other than NU difficult, especially as an ORM. If you’re at the top of your class and have any tip factors such as low income, first gen, underrepresented state-- who knows. But I hope these are just your reaches, if not, add schools.

ehhh top 1% or very close
from MN, 1st gen

but these wouldn’t matter as much as test scores + grades?
and yes I will apply other than above schools :)

so NU isn’t as hard to get in as other schools I’ve listed?
That’s good news, I really like the school. (course, I like others, too)

What considers the most in super competitive schools?

Oops I forgot my SAT II scores…

Math II: 800
Physics: 800
U.S. History: 800
Korean with Listening (YEAH): 800

thx for bearing with me folks.

You are the poster child for the candidate who will have to write a powerful un Asian application. With ECs being math/science and band, it’s key that your application show a fun, social aspect of you.

The problem is that you’re an average asian applicant.
You have NO respectable awards/positions for your math/science.
(USAMO/USABO/USAPhO/USNCO/Intel/Siemens/Etc.)

band is fun and social  but ok
as of now I believe U have about 10% chance of being admitted on each of the schools (which means chances of not being accepted in any of these schools is bit less than 50%)
so things to do:

Write a fun, social essay (I dunno what else)
Win USAMO/USABO/USAPhO/USNCO/Intel/Siemens/Etc.

Very good advices. Anything else you guys detect that’s weak in my app?

I wonder how many posts I have to make before I lose the ‘new member’ status…

I figure everytime I reply my post enjoys the 1st page status for about 20 min.

That is a fallacious statement.

That math does not apply here.
You do not stand out at any of the colleges.
If one college rejects you, WHY would the other college accept you?

This only applies when you are already EXTREMELY competitive in the applicant pool, and the only reason you will be rejected is because they don’t have enough room.

advanced lawlz, why such ignorance? yrret is in no way shape or form an “average asian applicant” (and if you actually think he his you clearly have never looked at piece data on the matter). You are clearly and egregiously underestimating this kid in every regard. his chances are as good as almost anybody’s save a few exceptions.

yrret…ignore advanced lawlz posts completely and go into the process knowing that you have great chances (but with the caveat that illogical things can happen).

first of all, 2nd page!
lol If I get angry at every random guy in the net, I would explode! (and so would a lot of people)

well, 25orsto4, you do outrank advanced lawlz by your junior status, so I hope you’re right. :)
