I also haven’t heard either way here in CT. I think I sent in application mid-late December. I was offered an interview for the Guaranteed Admit Program w/ the Medical School. I’m honestly more interested in that, but I wouldn’t complain about some extra money. I’ve got full-tuition, but if room and board was also free and GAP works out, I don’t think anything would make me turn down Pitt.

2/16/13 Update - Mail has arrived in CA and no news today. No email or update to the web status which is still “in process”. Still a total of 3 “no interview” via snail mail. One more post from CT (bakere19) who still has not heard. Please post any other updates including haven’t heard yet either way (like me). Thanks.

My S had status “awaiting transcript …” last week and then he got contacted for missing recommendation which he sent last week and now the application status shows “in review” . But no news in post as of saturday.

Congrats to your son for the CS. However I want to point out that basically everything you mentioned is something that ALL UHC-level students (i.e. academically capable) are able to participate in. The Brackenridge requires an application for each season (fall/spring/summer) but many more students than just the CS are invited to participate each time. Being a TA is highly dependent on department and major (I know SSOE loves to have undergrad students act as graders for low-level classes). Research again can be something many students can participate in, provided they contact a professor in a research lab who has an opening and is willing to take them/train them. And the UHC mentors are open to any student who wishes for mentorship, advice, or just some friendly guidance and conversation.

I don’t want to downplay what your son was/is able to accomplish as an undergrad, but I also don’t want people to think that these opportunities are only available to a CS student. There are certainly many of these opportunities available to any good student willing to search for them and spend time on them.

Email arrived this morning for D’s interview, we live in NJ, and her school just faxed another missing recommendation letter on 02/12.

My S got an interview in the email today.

Has anyone received an email “no interview” or have all of those come regular mail?

VryProundmom
I understand what you are feeling at this time. We were on the same situation last year. It is not a good feeling when you heard in CC about someone was called to the interview as early as mid-February, and until mid-March still nothing in your D’s inbox. All hearings were just like this thread, the announcements, the congratulations… I did not meet or talk to anyone who had interview, but at my D interview, the dean’s secretary told my D that was the last group of 5 or 6 students, and the decision came just a few days after the interview. Do a quick math, if they interview 10 students a week, it will take five weeks for 50 students.

Keep your hope up, you child already did a great job to be put in this situation

Btw, no activity for parent at the interview. My D was met and greeted by a graduated of UHC student who took her to the room for the interview.

@Parent1001 - thanks for the to Vrrproundmom - it is most helpful to me as well. The difficult thing is that my Daughter wants to visit Pitt - hopefully on the admitted students weekend in the beginning of April. We live in California - so she could go to Pitt from CA and then get home and have to go back the following week for an interview.

2/19/13 Update - Mail has arrived in CA and no news today. No email or update to the web status which is still “in process”. Still a total of 3 “no interview” via snail mail. 2 More email notifications for an interview (congratulations!) for a total of 6. Please post any other updates including haven’t heard yet either way (like me). Thanks.

@Parent1001

Thanks for your response. I appreciate your input. Your info from the Deans secretary does make sense. My daughter is a junior at Pitt and has met with parents and students who will be interviewed for the chancellors for the last two years. They do ask for honors student volunteers to answer questions and to talk up the university when their schedules allow. That request has not been made as far as my daughter knows so far.

Congrats to all who have been emailed and good luck to those who are still waiting.

Still waiting in PA for word of interview or letter of no thank you.

2/20/13 Update - Mail has arrived in CA and no news today. No email or update to the web status which is still “in process”. Still a total of 3 “no interview” via snail mail. Total notifications for an interview is still 6. Please post any other updates including haven’t heard yet either way (like me). Thanks.

Still haven’t heard (CT)

Just keeping everyone up to date - 2/21/13 - no news today here in CA…

In my son’s year he interviewed the last week of January and received his letter of acceptance the first couple days of April. I am pretty sure they were still interviewing at that time and he knows at least one person who was interviewed that late and got the scholarship. When he interviewed Doc was still there and the interviews were wonderfully wide-ranging and thoughtful discussions, he was given a book related to his interests selected just for him and the whole process took a long time. He really loved it and thought that the interview was almost as key as the money in encouraging him to attend Pitt.

A lot has changed in the UHC since Doc died and my son thinks it’s for the worse for a typical liberal arts student but the money is very hard to pass up.

I don’t think last year is a good gauge of this year, since the bomb threats were so disruptive. Don’t be surprised if you get a late letter to interview. People with March/April interviews seems to do fine.

Keeping everyone up to date - 2/22/13 - no news today here in CA. I greatly appreciate the posts about other peoples status and past years experience. Has anyone been interviewed yet this year? In the email that notifies you that you are being interviewed is there a specific date or range of dates for the interview? How much lead time is there? Thanks.

Crsprnt - My S’s interview is on March 1st so I will be able to update on the interview details later.

CRS, this is the reply I gave to your questions upthread…you must have missed it:

You have to contact them to schedule…they offer interviews most Mondays and Fridays through April 12. Th interview is discussion format with 2-3 UHC staff…lasts about an hour. Someone will call to arrange tours, deptment meetings, etc. They will reimburse travel expenses up to $500.

@MommyDearest13 - sorry i did miss it - think i am getting old :-(. When you call to arrange is there a window or can you interview in April? I was wondering if the April 5 and April 8 are blacked out? My Daughter would be making the trip from CA and that corresponds to UHC and admitted student weekends. If they are interviewing then and if she gets an interview I was hoping to do it all in one trip.
