Chancellor's Scholarship

So... I just got the Chancellor's scholarship today??!!! I'm incredibly happy and excited, but I was definitely not expecting it, especially this early. Did anyone else hear back?

Wow, congrats! That’s really impressive. I personally only applied to the Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship, but it’s exciting to hear that they’re already sending out results for the Chancellor’s. The website says results are sent out mid-march, so I guess they’re ahead!! Are you a regular decision applicant? Very exciting news! Congrats again!

Yes I applied Regular Decision and was accepted last Thursday for the MOSAIC program, but I wasn’t expecting to hear back from this until Mid-march like the website said! Anyways, thanks so much, so surprised, but amazingly excited! Good luck to you with CV scholarship!

congratulations lkel10s! hope you will be strongly considering Vandy come April first.

Yeah lkell10s, you should… Although I am just another applicant in the crowd… I know how awesome Vandy is… though I may not get accepted…

Congratz!! I got one too and was notified on the same day.

They say that you need to maintain a minimum GPA of 3 for the scholarship to be renewed every year. My need is far greater than this tuition scholarship. So after enrolling, for some reason if I can’t maintain this GPA ( hopefully it will not occur!), will they guarantee to meet my required financial aid from grants in the coming years( I am an international applicant; so I am not eligible for federal aid)?

You may lose your status of Chancellor’s Scholar, but I doubt that they would take away the grants, unless there is a minimum GPA required to maintain the grants.
But congrats!! I’m so excited!

Not to hijack this thread, but on the Vandy website it says that notification for this scholarship comes out around Mid-March. Does this mean that CV Scholarship is coming out soon also?

Think mid march for CV as well. Wouldn’t be expecting it tho. Only 1% of applicants receive.

Vandy will give you more grants beyond the merit for tuition for your room and board based on your need levels.

I would not worry about a GPA below 3.0! Not a concern!! Be strong! There are things like tutors on campus if you hit a bump in the road. Your advisor will help you build your work load reasonably. Unless you have very much difficulty studying or some other personal learning disabilities or issues, you should be able to manage your life reasonably.

For the occasional gaffe in lack of prep or readiness, there are options to drop courses before a certain date in a semester. Retaking a course or subject dropped over a summer comes out of your pocket. Making sure you are on track on your requirements and your hours each semester is something you negotiate with your academic advisor.

Please don’t focus on the negative. Compare your status at Vanderbilt with your other offers when they are all before you.

Only then if Vandy is at the top, personally seek out support on this question by discussing with paid staff in the office of honors scholars who will surely give you their frank experience and thoughts re your worries. You could probably call the Financial Aid office right now to get a reading on the fate of an honors international merit student who does not have the means to pay Tuition and who has a below 3.0.

Rejoice. Tuition free is a huge huge coups. Tuition by far takes up most of Vanderbilt’s expenses. The 5000 dollar grant also means a great deal when you are ready to do a summer learning, research or service project.

re timing…this is early for Chancellor’s notifications based on the last three cycles unless they are telling international students a bit early. The official admissions blog will update you on this years dates better than relying on this blog.

Hey, Ikell10s! Thank you. So I guess you will be attending Vanderbilt for sure!! Good luck.

Thanks Faline2! The detailed reply is really HELPFUL. I won’t be worrying too much!

I’m actually not an international student! But I’m pretty sure they have not notified everyone yet for Chancellor’s. But definitely not for CV. Anyways, right now it’s Vanderbilt, it’d take A LOT of money and enticing for me to go anywhere else at this point. Hope to see you all there next year!

I know it’s a shot in the dark but I really want the CV scholarship Q_Q

Hey lkell10s, I’m in the same boat as you. Received admissions through MOSAIC and then got an email about receiving the Chancellor’s the same day of your original post. Received a letter confirming the email about a week later. Then a week after that (this past Monday), I got another letter in the mail that was several pages long, had in depth information on the scholarship, and a reply sheet saying whether or not you’d be taking the scholarship.
Also, a blog post came out today saying they awarded 53 of the Chancellor’s Scholarships this year.

Congratulations, BigKevin.
