Chances after being deferred?

I applied ED to Brown, and got deferred- I was wondering if anyone knew what is Brown’s policy on deferring students? Do they defer a bunch of students, even those less qualified, or only those that they truly consider in good contention for the January Admissions? Also, if anyone had any stats on this matter, such as percentages of deferred Brown students that get in, I would be very thankful :)

Brown has never released this number. They generally say the acceptance rate for deferred students is comparable to regular decision applicants.

Brown has historically deferred about 60% of ED applicants. If they thought you weren’t qualified, you would have been denied outright.

I heard directly from a former admissions officer (current alumni counselor) that the deferral admit rate is actually slightly higher than the normal RD rate. Deferral is not rejection.

Yeah my alumni interview said that deferred applicants do have an advantage compared to an RD applicant. I’m not sure how much of a boost it is, but I’d be surprised if it was a huge help.

They deferred you because they weren’t sure how you’d stack up against RD applicants. Your chance of acceptance will depend on how well you stack up against that pool.
