Question on Deferral

Hello all,

I was deferred ED by Brown. I am curious as to whether or not anyone knows what Brown meant in their official letter when they stated that that typically, the number of deferred candidates accepted RD is in proportion to the number of students accepted RD. Does this mean that about 10% or so of the deferred applicants (around 1900 or so in total right?) will be accpted? Or is this just a feel-good ploy so as to make that those students deferred do not fall into a deep, sorrowful depression? Or is this being a little too optimistic and the number is far less than 10% or is it far more or can anyone possibly put an end to my rambling?

Thanks,
-Final

Brown has never, to my knowledge, released any data that could answer your question. I’m an alum who has been interviewing for 30 odd years, and I’ve never seen a published statistic, internal or external, that states the ED deferral acceptance rate. The one time I asked someone in admissions this question, I was told that it is a tough number to track because enough ED deferrals apply ED II somewhere else, or indicate in some other fashion that Brown is no longer their top choice. So, take the letter at face value and assume it is true.

I’d take the letter at face value (with the understanding that the RD admit rate is less than 10%)
