Chances....again ..haha

Being African American and a legacy will more than make up the deficiencies in your application.

actually if you look in the Cornell DATA sat, for guys, it is 31 percent and for females it is 35 percent for Human Ecology.

ok, update...I got my SAT scores (730 math 720 Cr and 730 writing).....are my chances any better now????

Are SAT scores or Extracurriculars more important?

SAT scores are only good up until a certain point. For example, once you get above the average for the college you are applying to for the SAT's, then it really doesn't matter how much over you are. However EC's, can keep on helping and helping you. These EC's need to be leadership EC''s though, just belonging to a bunch of clubs isn't going to help, only positions in a few clubs that you are dedicated to helps a lot.

I think most people will agree that SAT's are what gets you in the door, and EC's and other parts (essays, recs) are what get you into the College.

where do you want to go? why dont you want to go to cornell? have you visited campus? (this is not angry, this is curious)

I don't really want to go because my dad went...but i don't really have a choice...I'm visiting this summer after GHP is over...

there is always that school called Penn down the road in Penn, you can see JOe Paterno lol, just kidding of course, UPenn is the ill shizzles.

if applying ED to HumEc, is it necessary to retake a 1900 on the SAT if all other aspects of the app are solid (ladership/ec, essays, SAT IIs, etc.)?

you don't like cornell solely because your father attended? There's got to be more to it that that, because unless i'm not getting something here, thats a pretty superficial (and to me, nonsensical) reason.

blackferrari2006: no it is not necessary, but if you know you can do alot better, then i would recommend it.

lol...I got a 2180 SAT....much higher than a 1900... and sparticus800...I don't really like cornell period, but I'm applying because my dad attended and he really wants me to go there

blackferrari, ru kidding, a 1900 will land you a rejection period.

What is it about the off-season that brings out the trolls?

thats totally legit fut18000. but i'd say tell your dad that you know he went that and that he'd be excited if you did too, but that you really just don't like the place, and that you'll pick another school even if you get in and that it's a waste of time and money.

collegekid1988, i beg to differ. if you look @ USNWR's published SAT middle 50th for cornell it was 1280-1470. round that 25th% to 1300 and say it's from 2 (now make it 3) 650s, and a 1950 is the 25th percentile. not to mention that writing isn't being weighted heavily at all by admissions offices this year. so yeah, i would defintiely not say 1900 garuntees a rejection. it's low, for sure, but not impossibly low.

sparticious, that range is 2 years old, look at Colegeboard.com or Princeton Review, last year's range was 1290-1490, 1390 being the mid score.

this year, i expect it to be around 1300-1510.

like i said: granted, his score is on the low side, but still, i wouldn't call it grounds for an automatic rejection...I mean we're looking at the 25th percentile, not the 0th percentile for that bottom number.

I was sick on the day of the SAT test, so if I took it again, I could probably pull off a 2200. I was planning on retaking them in October. I did much better on SAT IIs (700s in 3 of them).
