Chances....again ..haha

Ok, the other night I went to one of those college meeting things with the expressed purpose of learning about Brown. Now, I think I really like cornell (My dad's alma mater). I was wondering if I had a chance at all and how it would fit in my college list (good, match etc...) because as of now its heavily tilted towards reaches. btw- I'll probably apply to either arts and sciences or the College of Human Ecology majoring in either Government, Policy Analysis
or Asian Studies

my other stats are:
aftrican american male in GA
legacy
SAT: 1320 (660 m/v and it was my first time) retaking in june and aiming for a 2100 (750 Cr, 700 math and 650 writing)

ACT: 31 (all subsections 32+ except science) retaking in june aiming for a 33..the current avg. of English, reading and math..lol

SAT II's: I took them may 7... probably 750+ USH, 700+ math 2c and 650+ on physics

rank/gpa: 6/377 (should be 4 or 5 after this semester) 95.5/3.976 uw ?w

Classes: 3 gifted, 1 honors chorus and PE/health freshmen year 93 gpa
3 gifted, 1 AP (5 on world exam)german and chorus sophmore year 97 GPA
2 gifted, 2 AP, german II and chorus this year 98 GPA
4 AP (gov't and econ count as one), 1 honors (german III) and chorus next year.... probably about a 100 GPA..lol

EC's: VP-elect of NHS and 3 year member(including next year), Prez-elect of Mu Alpha Theta and 3 year member (ditto), Mock trial-attorney for two years, Student govt-VP of student body this year...hopefully president next, scholars bowl 4 years (no major awards) and Odyssey of the Mind for two years (1st in region 4th in state) my sophmore year

Fine Arts: Vocal Music freak- gonna be a 4-year all stater, selected as a finalist for governor's school in vocal music (only 12 men..6 basses make it from the state), 4 year honor choir nominee and lots of other programs and honor choirs

other: Volunteer at local coop (2 hours every two weeks...not much but better than nothing) and lots of church music/leadership stuff. Also... i know all of my recommendations are going to be amAzing!

You have a good chance. Your GPA is great, ECs are right on. SAT score is kind of low for cornell as a whole, but it seems that the average score among African American applicants is a bit lower and your score should be very competitive with that.

If they need a bass voice (you're bass, right?), plus with your status as an african american, yea, those two hooks could help solidify an acceptance.

I say apply, and ED if it's your top choice, as that will greatly increase your chances of acceptance. It's a reasonable reach school for you (and cornell is a lock for hardly anybody, mind you). Good Luck! :)

ur In, genius.

is that a joke?

This kid is a troll.

lets turn him to stone...

no but seriously....are there any other comments on my chances??? And should I apply to the school of human ecology of arts and sciences?

HE has a higher acceptance rate. If both schools offer your major, i'd say HE. however don't change school based on acceptance rate unless both schools really match you

sparticus, i'm a bass, a good one at that... the only one who hits the low c with no trouble. How are you suppose to notify Cornell this when you apply?

stuyvesant, do you go to stuy high in manhattan?

No chance. Severe reach.

why would you say that? (or is that a troll?)

bklyn: yea i go to stuy...

stuy sucks -_-. It's all about Hunter.

this thread is really random...lol...I don't mean to sound conceited but I doubt that I have no chance...maybe a slim one but still....got my SAT II scores ....740 USH, 710 Math 2c and 670 Physics...ick

Legacy status only helps in the early decision round. Human Ecology has a higher acceptance rate for males than females, so if you'e a male it would be to your benefit to apply to Human Ec.

OK...is 770 History and 680 Bio acceptable? Cus many ppl on CC are really frustrated over their poor SAT II bio grade, like myself, and many are retaking it. What do you Cornellians think...considering im doing ED cornell.

akai, thats why all the smart hunter ppl transfered after 8th grade cuz they got so fed up right? i was in hunter you idiot, 7-2 and 8-4... i transfered cuz it sucked...

wow...harsh language there, lol

I'm not applying ED...I'm really only applying at all because my dad wants me to!
