You look like a strong candidate. I would not worry, the only area of improvement are your SAT's, but you are probably fine with a low 1200.

Thanks for the reply! I think my GPA will be fine but I'm really nervous about my SAT scores because I don't think they reflect how hard I work at school (I work harder than the valedictorian and salutatorian). My essays I think will be fine and I have a lot of inspiration to excel after one of my friends, who was very bright and talented, passed away last August in a car accident.

nahhhh don't worry so much. In your case, your APs and extracurriculars will help you shine. As long as you get between 1200 -1300 I'd say you've got a good shot. I'm also sending you a message.

I agree with the other posters as well. Also a fellow NYLC-er here =) (going to Wake next fall).

Another thing I am worried about is actually filling out the application. I read Wake Forest's online application and it said to fill out the application instead of sending a resume or "brag sheet." The thing is, I have a lot to say in terms of extracurriular activities and community service projects, since I believe that shows my passions and ambitions (political science and service to those who are less fortunate). Have any of you still sent a resume or "brag sheet" or how did you finally decide what to put on the application? Thanks for any and all advice!

I think I sent a resume,but that was a two years ago...
I'd be very careful in filling out this part. You have done many activities and on your App you should focus on the ones you were most committed to (ex: ones you've done more than 2 years). Sometimes people list too many activities and you've gotta wonder ... how do they have time for it all...

I know what you mean, but I've done all of my activities all through high school, except for the ones where you have to be inducted (NHS, Beta Club, NAHS, NFHS, etc)...maybe I'll leave a few of those off or add them to my "Awards" section? By the way, AP Art History was amazing (even if I don't do well on the exam I'm glad I took the class); the Surrealists and other more contemporary art movements completely changed how I view things :)

how are you taking 10 classes in one year?

Yeah all my classmates are saying I'm crazy for doing it lol :) Our school used to have eight periods but they dropped one my sophomore year:

Early Bird (Year) AP United States Government & Politics
1 (Year) AP French Language & Composition
2 (Year) AP English Literature & Composition
3/4 (1st Semester) Physics Honors
3/4 (2nd Semester) Pre-Calculus Honors
5 (1st Semester) Economics CP
5 (2nd Semester) Twentieth Century Seminar
6/7 (1st Semester) Talented & Gifted Art
6/7 (2nd Semester) AP Studio Art - 2D
Late Bird (Year) AP Human Geography

An important question I've forgotten to ask is: how is Wake Forest on racial diversity and acceptance? Sorry if this topic has come up before. Do you guys think three pages is too long for a "brag sheet" (as outlined in Katherine Cohen's books)?

I believe that Wake Forest has been working hard to increase diversity on campus, though I'm sure they are still not as diverse as they would like to be.

FWIW, though, two of the last three student body presidents have been African American, so I think it is fair to say that there is plenty of acceptance.

:) I liked the surrealists too.

as for the racial diversity acceptance, I think Demon Deacon summed it up. Overall people at wake accept each other for their differences.

The only complaint I have on acceptance is some people are alittle too conservative and image obsessed. I say some people because not everyone at wake is like this...

(image obsessed as in: spending 3 plus hours at the gym a day and judging people who don't)

Wake isn't even as conservative as pepole make it out to be. Probably "officially" there are a lot more Republicans than Democrats, but kids generally are apathetic to politics.
I agree that kids do tend to be a bit more image concerned/wealthier, but this is just generally.
I really would not worry about not fitting in. The only kids I knew that didn't, kind of had chips on their shoulders or just did not drop their "baggage" from high school.

Update: I got my SAT scores today.

660 Critical Reading
600 Math
610 Writing (7 Essay; 63 Multiple Choice)

Does this change anything?
