-First generation - father and mother did not go to college
-Looking to become a doctor <~ might be kinda stereotypical for an asian to become a doctor but it isn't due to family pressure or anything like that, but is for mainly that I would like to help people

I'm not sure where to place this but I am going to submit a project into the Intel competition if that counts as anything.

These are the schools I'm looking at so far and feel free to recommend me some.

Carleton College
Carnegie Mellon
Cuny Brooklyn for their Accelerated Program in Medicine
Sophie Davis for Accelerated Program in Medicine
Colgate
Columbia
Cornell University
John Hopkins
NYU
NorthWestern
Oberlin
Purdue
RPI
Rice
University of Michigan
University of Pennsylvania
University of Virginia
Washington St. Louis

so far i think you have a good chance of getting into most of your schools. try to raise your sat grades and gpa more. also try to do some more medical related volunteering and/or research work over the summer. it will increase your chances. good luck :]

Oberlin and Purdue - you will definitely get in. Plus, you being the first person in your family to attend college will help you.

Columbia and Cornell - a bit of a reach.

UVA - Reach.

When you write your essay (especially if it's a personal statement), I would encourage you to write the thing you wrote for your local writing competition on grandparents.

Use this summer to prepare for yourself for college applications and SAT subject tests. I think you will be in good shape by October

Carleton College - low reach
Carnegie Mellon - reach
Cuny Brooklyn for their Accelerated Program in Medicine - dunno
Sophie Davis for Accelerated Program in Medicine - dunno
Colgate - high match
Columbia - high reach
Cornell University - high reach
John Hopkins - reach
NYU - high match/low reach

Rice - low reach
University of Michigan - match
University of Pennsylvania - high reach
University of Virginia - dunno how it is for OOS...
Washington St. Louis - reach

I'd say get in another few safeties or matches. Your list seems pretty reach heavy.

Carleton College-reach
Carnegie Mellon-high reach
Cuny Brooklyn for their Accelerated Program in Medicine-good luck. accelerated programs are usually more competitive than harvard...
Sophie Davis for Accelerated Program in Medicine- smae thing goes
Colgate-match
Columbia-high reach
Cornell University-high reach
John Hopkins-high reach
NYU-low match
NorthWestern-match
Oberlin-match
Purdue-in

University of Pennsylvania-reach

thks watchingoscars and gregb for the chances

is NYU a match to low reach because im in NY or is it because of stats?

and will being 1st generation and low income help with schools: columbia, cuny brooklyn, sophie, columbia, cornell, john hopkins, and washu?

i also have some safeties but those i really dont need a chance for them so i just left them out. the schools i listed above are the heavy ones that i'm thinking of thus far.

Carleton College - reach
Carnegie Mellon - reach
Cuny Brooklyn for their Accelerated Program in Medicine - I'm not familiar with this, sorry
Sophie Davis for Accelerated Program in Medicine - I'm not familiar with this, sorry
Colgate - reach
Columbia - very high reach
Cornell University - high reach
John Hopkins - high reach
NYU - match
Northwestern - match
Oberlin - match
Purdue - low match
RPI - I don' really know this one, sorry
Rice - high match/low reach
University of Michigan - low reach
University of Pennsylvania - reach
University of Virginia - match
Washington St. Louis - low reach

Try to raise your SAT scores and try to bolster those EC's. If you play your cards right about your background and your commitment to your activities, you should be able to get in most of the matches. You should take a look at UMass and Rutgers too. You should definitely try to get some more safeties/matches to be safe :)

I think the only thing you really need to work on is your gpa. Your school being very prestigous helps a lot, and your EC's look very good. If you have an opportunity try to take the SAT's again and maybe boost that score a little bit. Other than that, you have a pretty solid resume.

I think Colgate, Columbia, Cornell, Penn, and Johns Hopkins are your highest reaches mostly becuase of your GPA

Northwestern, Purdue, Oberlin, Michigan, Virginia, and Wash. U. In St. Louis are matches for you.

Keep working hard...If you can get that GPA up and SAT scores up just a little bit then you'll be fine. That's easy to do junior year, just work as hard as you can.

For your reaches...that's not to say you won't get into any of those, especially because you're a minority, however it will be tough.

Stay committed, and I'm sure you'll do fine with whatever you do. Good luck!

Although you stand a good chance of getting into the state schools, I would reconsider them unless they offer substantial aid / scholarships. Some of your other schools (JHU, Northwestern, and the like) have GPA and test scores that are substantially higher than yours. Sad, but true. Your ethnicity isn't a help either. The colleges I didn't mention, however, are well within you range. Good luck.

wow longg list lol
just based on what i know, rice would be a low reach for you--as you said, it's stereotypical for asians to want to become doctors
if the medical field really is for you, i'd suggest picking up an EC or interning somewhere this summer to show dedication
