Chances as a Transfer

Hi-

I am applying to transfer to UMCP in the Fall of 2010. I'm coming in with 68 credits and a 2.8 GPA from a private university. I'm from Maryland and actually was considering going there as a freshman but turned it down. What are my chances of getting in? Is it harder if I'm applying for their business school?

Thanks for taking the time to help!

It is harder to get into the business school than the school at large, but you don’t hurt your chances of being accepted to the overall university just by trying your hand at direct admission to the biz school.

I would say with a 2.8 GPA, direct admission to the business school is pretty unlikely.

In terms of overall admission to the university, I don’t know much about transfer admissions. Obviously a 2.8 coming from high school would probably be rejected from MD, but I don’t know where a 2.8 on the transfer scale stands. My guess is that is definitely on the low side, though…whether you get in probably depends on what school you’re coming from, what program you were in there, upward vs. downward trend, and if there are some factors at play which brought your GPA down below the 3.0 mark (ex. really bad first semester grades due to homesickness, or something?).

Hi, I live in MD. But I go to school in PA. I am a political Science major with a 3.09 gpa in my second year at my school. With 46 credits. Also, I am on the senate at my school. I would like to know my chances in getting into UMDCP for the fall of 2010?

I put in an application January 30th, 2010.

Also, I have 3 letters of Recomendation one from the Dean of Student Affairs at my college I attend now, and a professor in my felid, and an Alumni.

Please let me know what you think of my chances.

I think you might be okay. I know someone who got in with a 3.1 as a transfer.
