Do I have a chance of transferring and getting in with these grades?

Hey all,
I currently go to UMBC and want to transfer to College Park. I was denied to CP as an incoming Freshman, because I honestly messed up bad in high school. I know I still have to show my High School grades to transfer, but I just applied again with this standing:
-3.3 GPA at UMBC with 15 credits

High School:
-2.8 GPA at Montgomery College with 7 credits(took these during high school)
-2.67(3.1 weighted) high school GPA
-26 on ACT

I am not too optimistic, although my college grades at UMBC seem pretty good and I am in state. I am not expecting housing and don't need it, but is there a chance of getting in or did I waste my time on the application?
Thanks,
Alex

We’ve had several transfer questions in the year or so I’ve been following this board…but we don’t have much experience in that area so answers are sketchy. My guess is that you have a darn good chance to transfer since you have proven that your can get good grades at the college level. Call an admissions counselor and ask…I think you’ll get some good insight that way.

There’s another thread for transfers that can give you more answers, but I think you have a good chance.

Yeah, Centh is right on that a lot of people on this board don’t have experience with transfers.

All I can say is that a 3.3 GPA at UMBC would look pretty good to UMD, I expect. The only problem I can see is that that is only your first semester of college. For me, first semester was definitely extremely easy academically. They might want to see another semester of similar grades.

It can’t hurt to apply…right? Again it’s a solid GPA, I think in general that’s what they look for out of a transfer.

Hi, I live in MD. But I go to school in PA. I am a political Science major with a 3.09 gpa in my second year at my school with 46 credits. Also, I am on the senate at my school. I would like to know my chances in getting into UMDCP for the fall of 2010?

I put in an application January 30th, 2010.

Also, I have 3 letters of Recommendation one from the Dean of Student Affairs at my college I attend now, and a professor in my felid, and an Alumni.

Please let me know what you think of my chances.
