Chances at a few colleges?

I have a 3.67 uw gpa and a 3.96 w gpa, my SAT score is 1950 (760 CR and 570 M)

Essays and recommendations are fantastic. I go to a small school and know my teachers very well, and my English teacher has a PhD from Yale and loved my essays.

Average amount of extracurriculars - part of 1 club (secretary and later president) for all 4 years of HS, helped start Model UN this year, played a sport since I was 9, volunteered at the same place for 4 years, babysat for 3, and have held a part-time job on an as-needed basis at 1 company for 3 years, tutored for 2 years, and I do some recreational running. I was in ROTC for 2 years (I was severely bullied in public school so I transferred to private school, who of course doesn't have a ROTC program) and I spent around 10 hours a week doing PT or Drill Team, and I hope to do ROTC in college.

I took an AP in 10th, 2 APs in 11th, and 2 APs this year (my school stopped offering APs this year so I'm taking the 2 this year online with the approval of the school)

I'm valedictorian but there are only 2 other kids in the senior class so I doubt my class rank matters that much. However, my school is for the "gifted" so there is that to consider I guess (not sure if colleges actually care about that or not?)

I'm looking at Gettysburg, Bryn Mawr, Washington & Jefferson, Wake Forest, James Madison University, and William & Mary (I was deferred from ED at W&M and I want to know if there's any hope of getting in RD).

Thank you in advance for anyone who replies!

hi,
what major ? People tend to never say which major, but it makes a huge difference…

Probably a Government/Political Science and International Relations double major. :)

Hang in there aspiringwmgirl! I think you have a good shot at Gettysburg, W&J, and JMU. The other ones can be somewhat unpredictable, but certainly worth a shot. Given your circumstances of changing schools, I think you have done rather well. I was accepted to W&M with a 3.55 UW GPA from OOS during RD, so don’t despair just yet. Your biggest weakness is probably the standardized test scores in math. Do you think it is possible to raise those at all? Even slightly into the 650 range could make a difference. Or even try the ACT. I know W&M has previously said they would consider January scores if submitted since they don’t go into committee until March. As far as I know, W&M doesn’t consider major when admitting students (it’s more for research purposes or programs for entering freshmen). Given how popular the government/IR major is for incoming students (something I am also interested in!), I don’t think I could have gotten in if they did.

Definitely send a letter of continued interest to W&M, expressing your sincere desire to attend the school. Your name is “aspringwmgirl” and you applied ED, so I think it’s pretty clear you have a passion for it. How many recommendations did you originally send? My friend who was originally waitlisted at Smith was eventually admitted after sending a new recommendation from our stats teacher (which she did exceptionally well in) and sending in second semester grades. It’s worth a shot! The chances may be low, but I have always believed in battling the odds. It’s more fun that way, and even if you fail, you know you have given your all and there was nothing more you could have done.

Good luck aspiringwmgirl! I sincerely hope you get in!
