You’re an excellent candidate, meaning your chances are very high. What schools do you plan to apply to in particular? Don’t retake your SAT!!! A 2310 is perfectly fine and you could use the time to make your essays perfect because they count for 1/3 of your acceptance! Your ECs are superb and basically everything is on point. All you need to do is to put your heart into your essays, and most of the Ivys will accept you! good luck my fellow med student!
Please chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1672761-chance-me-for-stanford-university.html

thx @Dream0n‌. good luck, best of luck in your own college app process.

Nice job. Great stats. I think the only thing you need to do is to explain why you are interested in medicine. Do you have a good answer? Anyone in the family a physician?

EC’s matter a lot for these sort of programs, and u seem to have that covered. ur chances are good.

@sgopal2‌ I actually had an uncle that passed away from cancer a year ago and that rly made me wanna get into cancer research or radiology, and volunteering with multiply-impaired children for 3 summers has also been instrumental in me wanting to be a Doctor. I’m actually hoping to be the first doctor from my family (all the others are in finance or engineering).

Great story about the uncle, make sure to use it in all the essay prompts. One other thing, use “physician” instead of “doctor”.

That is a great reason to get into the field… def an essay topic. Your scores look great, but a lot of competitive med schools are a crapshoot. Are there any that you’re looking at in particular?

Don’t retake the sat

I’m from TX so I’m definitely looking at the programs with TX public school (Texas Tech, UT Dallas with UT Southwestern, etc.). Does anyone have any suggestions for out of state programs where i could be a match?

You’re scores are great! You def don’t need to retake the SAT and you have superb ACT scores. Your ECs aren’t excessive (I mean that in a good way) and you show that you are interested in medicine. Competitive med schools are really a crapshoot, and I don’t know much about them so I’m not the most qualified person to recommend programs. Good luck!

oh, and thanks for chancing me!

@cassa22‌ Thanks for ur help! good luck in ur college app process!

I agree with most people in that you shouldn’t retake the SAT, a 2310 vs. a 2350 won’t really make much of a difference. In terms of your EC’s you are golden, so long as you can speak about significant things you have done in each of them ,or in other words, not just been a “member” (which i’m sure you haven’t judging by what you have written). Also, how much shadowing have you done?

I think you have a very good chance of getting into these programs. Your test scores are great (I also wouldn’t retake the SAT) and your ECs exemplify your interests. If you can convey your passion in your essays, then you can probably get an interview. Rice has a BS/MD program you could also apply too. And University of Miami, University of Alabama and Penn State all have them as well. Maybe you can look into those.

Good luck! (ps we have the exact same SAT scores, in all categories) :)

chance back?

@theminipen‌ my high school is dedicated to health sciences and medicine so we do shadowing in our city’s medical center as part of our mandatory Health Science and Technology classes. if i had to put a number on it, i would say about 30 hrs.

I just saw that you were a senior… and since its January now… hows ur bs/md application process going? If you don’t mind, where did you get interviews for?

@ymehkri‌
Its going well so far. Most of my interview requests should come out in mid Jan, but I already have had my interview with NJIT as part of the NJIT-NJMS program which went rly well and I was told that NJIT had forwarded my app to their med school. Now, its getting pretty busy with interviews for the UH-UTMB/UT Houston program in 2 weeks and SBU-GWU in 3 weeks. So yeah, its going alright. I only applied to 2 oos programs since my home state of TX has a ton of programs here just for TX residents. How bout u?

im a junior, so Im still racking up volunteer hours and applying for summer research internships. And I’m hoping to get a lot of shadowing hours over spring break and most likely in the summer too. Just wanted to know because Im really interested in combined programs and wanted to know how things went for u

@FischerDude97‌ Did you apply to UTSA FAME as well? I too am a TX resident…there seem to be so few of us texans interested in BS/MD programs on this blog which is strange bc there are so many programs in TX…Also, what do you know about the UH program? I applied but since it’s so new, there’s very little information about the quality of the program actually available online…good luck!

I think you would be a very solid candidate from the BS/MD program at Brown. It’s the only such program of its kind in the a Ivy League.
