Chances at Columbia GS

I've been looking at Columbia GS and I've been wondering if I had a shot. I didn't go to college after high school. This is not a new story it is the unfortunate tale of every no traditional student. I had to work to support my family in high school. A situation that continues after high school. After I had been out for about 2 years I went to community but ended up having to leave after a year. I'm back I'm community with a 3.0. I have no ECs and no SAT scores. I still maintain a 60 hour work week. Do I have a shot in hell at Columbia GS?

Your GPA is on the low side. To make up for that, I would study like hell and get a near perfect SAT score. I would also try to do at least one more semester and get straight As on transferrable coursework (to show how serious you are- upward trends also matter, not just cumulative GPA- you can explain this in your essay so they see that). ECs are not important since you work full time. The most important piece that GS looks for though is your story. Your essay should highlight your struggles, your experience, your maturity, and especially, what Columbia can do for you if you get in. They want to admit success stories. Make sure your pitch (essay) helps them visualize your potential.
