I'm an Asian Male Junior who goes to an average public high
school in Kansas. Oh, also, my low GPA is due to my freshman
year, I got a 3.7 because my grandmother (who raised me) got
cancer, and my life kind of went into a turmoil for a year,
everything was pretty bad that year. Sophomore year, I got ahold
of my life again, and I got a 3.92, and Junior year looks like I
have a 4.0. So that explains me relatively low GPA. I plan to write an essay about this.

What are my chances at the following schools:
Harvard
MIT
Stanford
Yale
Princeton
Caltech
UPenn Wharton
NYU Stern
Wash U in St Louis
U of Chicago
UCB
UMICH
Cornell
Duke

Please rate each as safety/match/reach, feel free to include any other schools that could serve as safeties and matches for me (or even some reaches that I haven't heard of). Thanks!

Up we go!!! Also, I attended the Governor's School if that makes a difference.

You have no idea how much I hate you at the moment. 3.7?!!?!?! <-That's a screwup!?!?!!?!? And since you sell your self so short:

Harvard-reject
MIT-reject (you don't want to be there anyways)
Stanford-reject
Yale-reject
Princeton-reject
CalTech-reject
Wharton-reject
Stern-accept
WUStL-reject
Chicago-reject
Berkeley-reject
Michigan-reject
Cornell-reject
Duke-reject

I hope this actually happens to you.

Just kidding. Brown would be a nice slight reach. But seriously, don't sell yourself so short.

I would actually love to be at MIT, I have a ton of friends there. I'm such a dork :)
Edit: I'm not saying that 3.86 UW is bad, i'm lamenting it because it puts me on the borderline for top 10% in our school (which i think is quite important). As long as i'm top 10% i'm happy :)

bump........

Grandma with cancer = ownage for college, lol.

Harvard - Slight Reach
MIT - Slight Reach
Stanford - Slight Reach
Yale - Slight Reach
Princeton - Slight Reach
Caltech - Match
UPenn Wharton - Match
NYU Stern - Safe match (not too sure, but I think so)
Wash U in St Louis - Match
U of Chicago - Safe match
UCB - Safe match
UMICH - Safety
Cornell - Match
Duke - Match

only slight reaches for the top schools? and matches for caltech and wharton? :) I hope the adcoms think so too

Just looking at your USAMO scores...O_O HOLY SHIZ! I wish I even qualified for one...haha. If I was the adcom I'd accept you and then when you were on campus I'd ask you how you did it. hahahah

I think coming from Kansas doesn't hurt :-p Although being an Asian male doesn't exactly help heh

Yeah, your freaking USAMO and AIME scores are impressive enough for MIT/Caltech.

Lol i got completely owned my first year of USAMO. But there are IMOers who get rejected from the top schools (though admittedly not many). What could I do over the next summer to improve my chances? Community service or something?

I think a summer program would look better.

I'm going to PROMYS this summer, but that's for like 6 weeks, so i have the rest of the summer to do stuff to help round out my app before early admissions!

bump...........

uppity up up up
