Asian Male from Kansas

I'm looking for Reaches/Matches/Safeties, I want to major in econ and go into business/finance

What are you looking for in a college?

Overall:

HYPSM: Slight Reach/ Reach (get into one possibly)

Duke, Dartmouth, Brown, Penn, Columbia, Amherst: Slight Reach (get into 1/3)

Cornell, Rice, JHU, Northwestern: High Match (accepted at 50-75%)

How should I use my early applications? My top 2 choices are MIT and Harvard. Harvard restricts me to only 1, but i think that it's EA percentage is higher than MIT's...Do you know which of the schools you named have EA/ED/SCEA? I was thinking maybe I could apply to MIT, Caltech, and some of my safeties/matches which were EA's, and then I could apply to the rest RD. Or I could just apply to Harvard early. What do you guys think about that?

even though you do the average asian thing (tennis, orcheastra, piano) good chance with kansas (geographic diversity=hook)... you should apply EA to several schools... MIT, Caltech, Georgetown, UChicago are good ones.

What other schools are EA?

Most of those schools won't let you apply early to more than one--even if it is EA (non-binding).

I'm pretty sure the schools sweet like sugar mentioned have no such restrictions; MIT is a match with the USAMO score, you'll just need to be unique in your essays/recs/interview

A match? I've gotten mixed results on this board about how important the USAMO is...Anywayz, I'm relatively sure that MIT is just regular EA and that there are only a few schools that are SCEA (Single Choice EA). Question about the recs though. What do you usually look for in a teacher to see if he/she will write good recs? Do you look for serious ones? English teachers? Ones that know you best? Thanks in advance!

english teachers/ones that you know best - these are both good plans
serious - don't worry about that

Thanks for the info. So what are some other schools I should be looking at? So far i have
HYPSM
Caltech
U Chicago
NYU Stern
Duke
Amherst
All of the Ivies
Wash U
Berkeley
Georgetown

Also, what can I do to improve my chances specifically my chances at MIT or Harvard?

Help!!!!!!!

What you should be doing is narrowing your list down.
Figure out what you want from a college besides prestige. Please don't tell me you're applying to all of those schools because you love them--NYU and Dartmouth have little in common.

I want colleges with good econ/business programs. I'd also like a good math program if possible. Any suggestions?

caltech/ berkely- safety

caltech isnt a safety for ANYONE....

Meatlovers, the school you're looking for is probably MIT, their econ/business prorgrams are among the best there is. And caltech is pretty much a safety IMHO with above a 0 on the USAMO, but its not automatic of course; I really don't see you getting rejected by them unless something on the application stands out as BAD. CIT loves usamo... at worst its a match

Yea MIT is probably my first choice (or tied for first with Harvard). Are you guys sure caltech is a safety? It's a pretty good school to be a safety...

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, it's not a safety, because like all top schools they don't automatically admit for any reason, its case by case; however, I think you can count on getting in

Meatlovers:

UCB: Match (out of state)
