Chances at Cornell

Hi guys
After reading all these ‘chances’ threads, I couldn’t resist creating one myself.

So I’m an international student and I go to one of the most competitive schools in my country (British curriculum - A levels)
Rank:top 10%
My subjects are:
Math
Further math
Physics
Computer Science
and I’ve got A*s in all of them throughout the year.

Before that, I did IGCSE (first two years of high school)
Math - A*
ICT - A*
Physics - A*
Biology - A*
Chemistry - A*
French - A
First language English - A

SAT I
1540 (Math 790, Writing 380, Reading 370)

I’m going to be doing SAT II in October - Math II, Physics and maybe French

Extracurriculars:
Volunteering at a school for children with special needs (100+ hours currently and I’ll be continuing this)
Part of the Robotics Club - working on building a drone (if that makes any difference)
Founder of the programming club (I’m really interested in programming and have been learning as much as possible)
I run a blog with a couple of my friends - no real audience, but just a way of presenting our interest in writing (stories, articles, etc…)

Another activity I love but has no credibilty as such: cyc;ing. I think I can incorporate it into an essay.

I hope to pursue engineering at university

Decent stats but Cornell, especially Cornell Engineering, will be a reach for anyone. Just apply and see what happens.

Your grades definitely qualify however I think your ECs need some work. Your ECs are very common for getting into Cornell. You are the founder of a club and the member of another. That’s a good start, but you need to start programming outside of school and have something to show for it, like a video game you made or something similar.

Like the other posts above, your grades definitely make you competitive and your EC’s are alright. However, because this is an Ivy League school, this is ubiquitous among applicants. If you’re really into Cornell, I recommend doing ED or EA so that you’ll have a better shot at getting in. Also, you could apply to another school either in the U.S. or the U.K. and if you’re still into Cornell by then, apply for a transfer.

Hope this helped and best of luck!
