poor. Outstanding test scores mixed with a poor GPA and ECs mens your outlook is bleak

If I created apps and other programs, competed at hackathon be sufficient enough to improve my EC

Would improving my ECs by doing that be good enough for Cornell to overlook my GPA

If you ED to Cornell and have better EC’s I think you might have a decent chance (meaning same as others, esp cuz it’s an Ivy League)! Yes, GPA is low, but I’ve seen people with your GPA get in ED. Would you mind sharing your race?

The only problem with improving EC’s is that colleges can see when you start. Aka if you start junior summer/senior fall, it looks like your sole purpose of doing these EC’s is to help your resume (which obvi, colleges do not like). I’d say it is better to improve upon one existing EC. Perhaps the films? Maybe compete in some /state/national since film seems to be a continuing interest of yours!

I am Nepali which is a very small country in Asia. I have also helped organize events to generate money and good to go to Nepal to help the earth quake victims. Should I include that because it wasn’t really a formal event we just went around asking for donations and such

@Dogcat73

Since you’re international, that will also lower your chances a little bit. You have virtually perfect tests but not great GPA or ECs. Include everything you’ve done outside of school for ECS

@MaizeScream no I’m a legal resident of the united states lol he asked for my race so I told him

If you ED I say you have a solid shot. I have a 3.55 and a 1500 with Solid ECs and am considering EDing there, but not sure yet. You still have time though to raise the GPA before the end of the academic year. Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/20608597#Comment_20608597

Nothing will help buffer your application from the fallout of a poor GPA. If you apply ED, you MIGHT get deferred, but GPA is still the most important component. Since you’re asian, it makes things even more difficult. I’m not saying you’re screwed, but just have safeties.
