Basically, I really want to know my chances at Duke. I'm really worried about my SAT, so I'm wondering if my EC's and GPA will make up for it. Am I heading in the right direction for Duke or Stetson? Also, feel free to recommend any colleges that I should look into. Thanks!

Well you will have to get you SAT up to at least 2000 to even have a chance… and at least 2100 if what want to be “average”. If you can get it up to a 2100 I’d consider you about average (for Duke) and that means you would have around a 20% chance of admittance. However, your essays and recommendations also count, and I really can’t judge them.http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/636336-chances.html

Only someone into golf would be into Duke…and Stetson. You’re in at Stetson, Duke is a reach at this point. Try to narrow down you EC’s and focus on one or two things…and do them really well.

bump

Any suggestions of schools that I should look at? I would give chances for you guys, but seeing how I wrote this, I’m pretty bad at the whole “chances” thing. lol. Thanks for the comments though :)

bump chances

bump  :)

Duke is probably a high reach for you. Although your GPA is great, your SATs are really lacking for Duke’s standards. If you can, retake the SAT and get at least a 2000-2100. Also, try to focus on and create a hook with your extracurriculars. Right now, they lack focus, something that Duke and all other top schools dislike, and it seems as if you’re spreading yourself thin. Earn some leadership positions in your clubs.

your a Junior, you have at least 10 more shots for SAT + Act. Sat isn’t hard… I thought grammar was impossible at one point but did princeton review tests for literally 5 hours straight the friday before the test and the next day my score improved by 100. I’m sure the same can be done for reading and math, just that the nerves get to you sometimes. I remember the day i took my SATII’s and it rained i missed math problems because my head hurt and so I retook it when it was sunny and got an 800. Just rinse and repeat SAT problems alot and I’m sure your grade will improve. Btw i read a book called “The underground guide to the SAT’s” waaaaayyy back in 8th grade for the DUKE TIP Sat thing and its helped alot. So the humorous take on the Evil Testing Serpent (ETS) might help you remember some tricks.

This might be a ridiculous question but how can I “create a hook with your extracurriculars”? Can you please explain? Thanks :)

I mean with my EC’s, not “yours”. lol
