Hello everyone, hope all is going well! This is my junior year in high school and I am very interested in applying to Phillips Exeter Academy for my senior year. Well, here goes:

Current Grade: 11
Straight A's in all honors courses expect for a very noticible (dare I say out of place) B in AP Biology. Average grade of 93. PSAT results yet to come in, but a perfect score on MCAS in both English and Mathematics. (This test is probably meaningless in my application, but still may peak their interest) Our school does not compute a formal class rank.
1st chair euphoniumist in my district with a state recommendation (first in school history)as well as school band. Have only been playing for two years.
Current President of my class
Ice Hockey for four years, current JV position at high school
Two years of Ultimate Frisbee, still learning the ropes
Five years of piano (no awards) and one year of music theory.
Currently teaching euphonium and piano at local music store.
Caroling and tutoring for community service.
Born in U.S.
Enthusiastic and open-minded
Much obliged to anyone actually reading this, your comments will really help me decide if I actually stand a shot a Exeter. Best of luck to all college and prep-school applicants this year!

mmm, thanks for the comment. I suppose that a "decent" chance makes me feel better :) At the very least, it makes it worth applying. Sorry that your personal experience there wasn't so great... I'll do some more searching for reviews of the school from various alumni. Thanks again!

Ah, my mistake! Well, I will still consider other options and look at school reviews, but I honestly have my mind set on an Exeter application. Appreciate your feedback!

It's hard to say without SSAT/PSAT scores. Keep in mind there are very few spots for 12th grade and most will go to people the school "needs", athletes for given teams, a strong debator, etc., rather than just good students.

If you really want to attend a prep, apply to more than one.

Yes, I completely agree with you, and am literally hanging over the mailbox each day. Hoping for the best! You also have a great point that there are certainly fewer senior chairs. Hopefully they need a euphonium, as that is the major EC that I am riding on.
Anyway, thanks and I will post the PSAT grades as soon as I receive them!

heh, fairly simple (and I think reasonable) response to your point. I am looking particularly for a school which can provide a stronger and more challenging academic experience. I am also looking for a superb music program. The specific reason for my waiting until junior year to apply is, quite frankly, that I wanted experience and confidence that I could succeed in a "normal" high school environment. If you'll notice as well, most of my EC's are quite recent, particularly my success with the euphonium. Building a wide range of EC is another reason for my delay, even though it still may not be enough.
Still, there's no harm in trying, and "there's no time like the present" :)

Hey, I have a friend who goes there, and his resume was probably nowhere near impressive as yours. But then, his brother went there too, so I don't know how much that helped him. You'll probably be fine though.

Hmm, alright, for better or worse, PSAT scores are in! I suppose it could have been worse, though I'm not exceptionally pleased with the math...

You know, there's a Prep School Admissions thead.. you'll probably get more repies if you post there.
You know, you should probably edit your scores so they're either all percentile or all raw score... I was sort of confused when your scores read 65, 57, 65 to a total of 92!
