Hi everyone on CC. I've applied to these three universities (among others, but these are my top three). I am taking three AP Classes (biology, calculus AB, and statistics), and everything else is an honors course. My rank is 60/223, and my cumulative G.P.A is around a 4.05. I recently took two SAT II's. I scored a 550 on Math 1 and a 610 on Math 2. My act composite is a 26 (25 Math, 28 reading, 24 Science, 25 English). I am involved in two varsity sports, football and track. I have three great recommendations from my AP teachers. I am a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Vice President of Spanish Club, and Math Honor Society. I am also a lead mentor for program working with autistic teens. Chance me for fordham, wake forest, and boston college (legacy)

You should be okay for Fordham, especially if you’re coming from a Catholic high school. BC will be tough. I don’t know anything about Wake Forest.

BC and Wake are big reaches with 26 ACT and 27% class rank … 20% chance at best. Fordham is about even odds. Your problem is taht both ACT and Class rank are beneath Fordham’s midpoint (and beneath Wake and BC’s 25%)… Hispanic gives you a little boost, but not nearly as much as Native American or African American would. I don’t think Legacy for BC gives as much boost as would be needed with your stats, but I hope for your sake I am wrong.

Fordham stats:

In top quartile of Class Rank: 78% You just missed this
25/75 ACT average: 28. You are 26

We have about 7 BC alum in my H’s family, but there have been family members who have been rejected by BC, so I don’t think it really counts for much these days! BC is highly competitive & it seems their applicant pool increases every year.

Unless that legacy connection is very, very strong with a lot of development in there, or unless you have a special hook BC wants, the chances are about zilch for that school.

Wake Forest is another tough one with your numbers. Maybe Fordham. All are reaches because your test scores are not in the range where you can be pretty sure of a chance getting in and all of these schools do heavily weight the test scores.

listen, kids in my school have been getting into fordham with grades less than me so please I don’t like your negativity. My counselor and the VP of Admissions at fordham went to high school together and they are great friends. Plus my school is catholic.

And btw wake forest is 100% test optional. i am not sending my tests. so please judge me off of my GRADES and EXTRACURRICULARS ONLY

what negatitivy? If a reasoned assessment based on the facts you gave leads to a 50/50 chance, don’t shoot the messanger, especially when YOU ASKED.

You did not mention that your Counselor is friends with the admissions office at Fordham. This of course makes a huge difference. Given that, I’d reasonably assess your chances at Fordham at about 70%. Again, don’t get upset because I couldn’t read your mind and know that you have a relationship edge at Fordham.

and you are correct that I forgot Wake is Test Optional. All the more important then your grades/Class rank. However, your grades alone (27% class rank) are not typical of Wake admittees: http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=1575

Class Rank Top tenth: 75%
Class Rank Top 25%: 89%

you miss both categories (73%), and fall into the 11% of enrolled students that are below 75%. MOst of those 11% are URM or recruited athlete. Unless your Catholic school is significantly more competitive than the one I am most familiary with in LA, Loyola High School, where my nephew graduated Valedictorian, I don’t think a 73% class rank is appropriate to Wake Forest.

I hope you get into all three, but you didn’t ask this Board for what we hoped, you asked for what we think your chances are.
