Did you get an official nomination? If you do, I think your chances are very good. A couple of my friends got into military academies, and their stats were far less superior than yours, so I think you have a really god shot!
Good shot, make sure you have that nomination.
@marathonguy5366 Of course!
Your stats are way above average for the Air Force academy and I’m sure you’ll get in!
You need a nomination from your local representative or senator – go on their Congressional website and you’ll see the link to get the nomination.
Best of luck and thank you for your desire to serve our country!
Thanks everyone, really appreciate it. If you don’t mind me asking, what are some of the key things Congressmen look for when they are deciding on nominations
Are you an Eagle Scout? My son got multiple offers from the mayor, senators, assemblyman, after getting his Eagle and NM win.
I’ve coached a basketball team and taught Sunday school at my Hindu temple though, maybe that might count for something
As well as started a nonprofit that aids the homeless
@marathonguy5366 There’s a bunch of articles online – I think USA Today did a series on this – about the process of getting nominated. There’s a limit to how many people can be in service academies at a time from each Congressional representative, so it will be easier to get the nomination from your local House of Representatives member than from a Senator. Go to their Congressional website and under “constituent services,” you will see “service academy nominations.” Fill out the form and you will be good to go.
FWIW and if you’re into politics, Constituent Services (aka “casework”) is very important to Congressmen and is how they get re-elected. I couldn’t care less about what my local HOR member is voting for on the agriculture committee, but if I need help with the federal bureaucracy (i.e. passport, social security), the Congressman will win my vote by helping me out.
And thank you again for your selfless desire to serve our country. While I sit here, writing my essays and studying for my standardized exams, I will remember you – a person who could make it to the Ivies – but is willing to sacrifice it all for this great nation. Thank you.
Thanks! I’m one step closer on my journey
