I am currently a Junior in high school. I had a very shaky beginning to high school academically due to social anxiety. However, my sophomore and junior year I have turned it around and become a top student as I was able to overcome my fear of the social part of highschool (I made sure to base my application essays off of this).
While visiting GWU an admission advisor told me that they will count my first semester of Senior year in my gpa as well weight my honors classes.
Weighted GPA: 3.99

Clearly I had a significant incline in my GPA over the years. However, my Freshman and Sophmore year was mainly made up of regular classes, not honors. This was due to a horrible councilor who refused to let me excel.

Will my horrific Freshman year and kinda sophomore year ruin my chances of these schools? Or will my strong Junior year and writing about overcoming social anxiety help me to have a chance?
Thank you so much!

I’ve heard of villanova but for GWU a peer of mine got defferred/rejected from there this year. She’s a great student, took some 6 APs her junior year, gets good grades, is taking at least 4 APs (one being two blocks) this year. Shes done the musical for 4 years and started her own nonprofit, and has decent extracurriculars though I’m not sure on all the specifics. Anyways, her scores were similar and her GPA I think was a bit higher. Honestly though I think it was her recommendations that really hurt her and probably her essays. The teachers she got recommendations from are known for basically just restating your brag sheet (rather than seeming original and talking about other aspects of the student). Hopefully you get in though!

I got into GW Elliot School with a 15k merit scholarship this year with a slightly lower SAT, rigorous course load (full IB diploma), good grades but not perfect (citizen living overseas so no GPA at my school) but a fuller extra curricular schedule. try and get some more leadership and maybe start a club of your own

GWU puts some weight to demonstrated interest, so try to demonstrate some interest… and pay attention to who writes your letters of recommendation, as well as to your essays.

I know some people at Villanova, and compared to their stats I think i would call you a match. I really don’t know much about GWU. Anyway, best of luck!! :)
