I aspire to yale or brown, something around there. I'm a high school junior, and I haven't done official ACT or SAT yet.

School: public, Illinois
GPA: currently 5.3 weighted, out of 5.0
Estimated ACT: 33
PSAT (sophomore year): 195 :(
Not sure on rank, prolly top 10% out of around 250

Race: Caucasian Hispanic
Gender: Female
High income bracket, not first gen college.

Schools ECs:
- Theatre Business
- Theatre Acting
- Book Club
- Choir (board member)
- Gender Equality Club
Outside EC:
- piano (9 yrs)
- Voice (6 yrs)
- painting, art, pursued independently
- regular volunteering at local library
- organized fundraiser for humane society
- organizing fundraiser for local arts and children's resource foundation

Recs: should be good from English teacher, figuring out a science teacher. Not a close relationship with counselor, but she thinks I'm an overachiever

Classes: nearly all honors or ap, except for choir and zero hour gym. I will graduate with at least 10 aps, some taken as soph when recommended for juniors.
I am part of the charter program AP Capstone, which is a two year seminar/research courses endorsed by College board and highly competitive universities.

My essay will be about how having synesthesia has made me see the world differently. It makes it hard to follow a typical learning style, but it helps me understand the world and situations differently than others because I've always had to think a bit strangely and out of the box.

If I'm not a good fit for ivies, where do you think I belong?

OP here! I forgot to put that I work four hours a week at my music/theatre studio. I do cleaning and filing, but I also teach piano and sometimes voice to young students.
I also have a few academic and music related awards, but nothing very special

You kind of need to take the SAT or ACT before anyone can really chance you. Regardless of what your future test scores may be, make sure you write amazing college essays.

Here’s a link to the common data set for both of the schools in the Ivy League you posted above (go to C9):

Brown: <a href=“Office of Institutional Research | Brown University”>Office of Institutional Research | Brown University;

Yale:http://oir.yale.edu/sites/default/files/CDS2013_2014.pdf

Don’t read too much into that PSAT score. I got a 199 on my PSAT and got a 2210 my first time taking the sat without real test prep. Any number of factors can falsely deflate a PSAT score, especially because there’s less leeway for wrong answers. Take some practice tests and get some sleep the night before the real thing. Make sure you try the ACT too, you might like it more. Once you have a score, it’s much easier to chance you.

You should try to hold more leadership positions if possible in the clubs that you are in- many colleges (Ivy or not) want a leader. START STUDYING FOR THE SAT/ACT NOW- your scores will make or break you in the admissions process. Do NOT take them at the last minute either, schedule 2 tests for each so you can take them once, know what you need to work on and then take them again to achieve maximum scores. Unless you go to a very competitive school, you should also focus on working your way to the top of your class. From your course description, you sound very smart, so keep working hard!

Make sure to apply to schools other than the Ivies too- it’s always good to have options. Try looking into University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, Northwestern University (also in Illinois), or even University of Illinois at Chicago. No matter where you end up, you will do great! Good luck!

Chance back?

Test scores will be a big decider, so we need those to help you. Plus, you need more leadership (talk about when you teach the kids in voice/piano). Get your GPA (what is it unweighted?). Good luck, you seem VERY smart, you’ll be fine no matter what.
