JHU ED is a mid-reach, all things considered.

@Catria, Thanks!

I’d consider JHU a reach for you, because of your GPA. But the rest of your application looks strong.

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1542332-how-much-shot-do-i-have.html

@emilieland, Just wondering, which GPA did you look at? As stated in earlier posts, the UW GPA I listed in the original post includes my freshman year GPA.
My UW GPA, excluding freshman year, is 3.645. Even then, would JHU still be a reach school because of my GPA?

@Catria, Do you mind telling me what you think about my chances at the following schools?
- Brown
- Washington University in St.Louis
- Rice
- Northwestern

Thanks!

I’ll chance back anyone else who answers the question above.

My son is going to be attending WUSTL this fall. Once again, your GPA is going to be low for the school, but that in of itself is not the only deciding factor. WUSTL looks At demonstrated interest. If possible, I would recommend attending an information session if one is available in your town. It also would help if you could visit the campus interview on campus. Applying early decision is the best way to indicate interest in the school.

As an aside, there is no premed major at either Johns Hopkins or the other schools that you mentioned on this thread. I don’t think that applying with the intent of choosing a different major other than the ones that you mentioned would give you any inherent advantage, as the schools don’t admit by major, other than possibly for BME at Johns Hopkins.

If you’re interested in getting more info on WUSTL (at least from a parent’s perspective who was very
involved in the process with my son), you can PM me.

You have impressive SAT scores but your GPA is relatively low… I don’t really know how schools would view such a discrepancy, but considering that you have a rigorous curriculum in your senior year, I think you are a solid applicant. I would say JHU is a reach for you right now because of your GPA’s. Try to be involved in activities that connect to your intended major, because JHU likes students who are focused.

I suggest that you apply to UC’s because they are quite stats-focused, and you have good SAT scores. Good luck.
