Chances At Northwestern, John Hopkins, Nyu, Cornell

Hey there, I'm posting this for my friend. He is in grade 12 right now and is interested in applying to northwestern, john hopkins, nyu, and cornell... as an international student (toronto, canada)

SAT I - May07
CR-690 - Math-650 - Writing-670

Oct 07
CR-680 - Math-730 - Writing-730

Taking - SATIIs Nov07 - english lit, math and Dec07 french

GPA - ?
86% average...from the last 3 years (80-100% = A in Toronto) so essentially he has been on the honour role every year
This year.. gr 12 looks like it's gonna be 92%+ average... I don't think it will raise the GPA by very much though.

ECs
Piano - Grade 10 with honours (huge commitment 12 years+, completed all levels, working towards instructors exam)
Music Theory: Harmony gr 3 with honours
Music History gr 3 with first class honours
Performed at 7 concerts

Volunteer
Radiology clinic internship - 40 hours

Work
Kumon Math and Reading center - Centre Assistant (part-time job) 2007-present
responsabilities: marking, guiding students through difficult math/reading problems

No APs (school only offers 2 anyway) however, taking extended french (bilingual studies) which is in between regular english courseload and immersion french courseload

So yeah just wondering what are his chances at those schools or if you have any other suggestions to other prestigious institutions in the u.s. that would be great. Thanks =)

Cornell and Northwestern looks reachy. And NYU should be a match (unless Stern).
Being an international makes it much harder to get in.

Thanks for your input =)

the october 2007 SAT scores aren't up yet . . . how does he already have his scores?
i think they put up scores tomorrow . . .

There's a loophole in the system that everyone has been using to get their SAT scores. umm checkout one of the threads in the sat forum of cc... what do you think about his chances tho?

i know that cornell concentrates a lot on essays, but his stats look good to me, what's the GPA on the 4.0 standard?

also . . . does he need $aid? and is he asian? lol

well an 86 would be an A but im sure that alot of other kids have higher in the low-mid 90s

Yeah he's a fantastic essay writer just stumbled a bit through grades 9-11 so essentially his GPA is around 3.6 i THINK...

he doesn't need aid. he's a jewish caucasian (male obviously)

his chances are A LOT higher if he doesn't apply for aid, well, good luck to your friend

yeah, okay thanks! anyone else know what his chances are?
