so do i even stand a chance?

If you get your SAT above 1400, you have excellent chances

As it is, your competitive though

Great GPA, though mediocre SATs for ivy standards

You are in. Viva La Raza y Si Se Puede!

i do wish it was that easy though

i have a sinking feeling i will be compared against other applicants from my school, and Princeton's number for accepting applicants who apply as minorities isn't too comforting (5,000 apps, 610 accepted.)

why is your GPA so low 9-11?
other than that
great scores for hispanic ...

are you Mexican American?

Less than 10% chance.

being hispanic definitely helps a lot, as you probably already know. match score is a little low but they might be willing to overlook it.

my GPA is low because freshman year honors classes at my school are not offered honors points (i had a 3.5)

also, i am not mexican. rather, i am cuban.

i'm thinking of using my optional information portion of the app to discuss my low math scores; i have no intent to continue my math studies (i plan to be a english/history major) and want to stress that i understand my weaknesses

up to you about the essay

im not sure about admittance for cubans as compared to say.. Mexican americans.. but I do think that its much lower for Cubans... goodluck :P

yeah, i pretty much know this is my one reach school (i know i'm in pretty much everywhere else...) but i really am placing a lot of weight/confidence on my essays (writing is my one key strength) my recs, and my interview (i come off much better in person than on paper, it's part of being articulate.)

oh well...there's always grad school

what are your backups?

Your chances are about 50/50.

I think the low math score may not factor as much as you think because it is clear you wish to persue writing or the humanities. They will see you are very strong in that area.

other schools im applying to:

University of Southern California
Emerson
Middlebury
NYU
Barnard
Pomona
Loyola Marymount
UCLA
UC Santa Cruz
Stanford (parent choice)
Santa Clara (parent choice)
Boston College
Boston U

you're probably in most of them

stanford and princeton will be tough though

goodluck

new SAT scores, so i'm bumping this:

dec. SAT 700 V, 630 M, 700 W.

so my highest scores are 720 V, 640 M, 750 W for a total of 2110.

not good enough?

Well, why don't you send in a sample of your creative writing? If you are "hardcore" then let the colleges see the talent!

done and done.

sent it today.

I think there's too much of a gap between your top two (stanford and Princeton) and your next choices (middlebury and UCLA). No interest in Brown, Dartmouth, Columbia? Those are excellent and very realistic reaches.
