hey i've heard a lot about princeton and i'm honestly really nervous about my shots of getting in. the only people from my school that got in last year had 2350+ SAT scores and nearly perfect GPA's. some kids got rejected around that same area too. my school's predominantly white but i was just wondering what you guys thought of my chances. other schools on my working list are penn, duke, northwestern, washu, and cornell.

I'm really want to go into some field of science with some kind of minor in spanish and eventually be a doctor.

Hey, you seem to have a pretty good shot. All of your stuff so far looks really good...you might want to try to pull up your grades in the first semester of your senior year but given that you are involved in so many sports that might be kinda tough. You're not in "danger" or anything though; your GPA is fine, but, as all of us could, it could be higher. Overall, you seem to be in really good shape.

Sidenote: not very many people will respond to this chances thread, mainly because URM is in the thread title. I did the exact same thing on the Princeton forum a year ago and the third post said "sorry, I'm not rascist, but nobody likes URMs :)" It wasn't meant to be mean, but the basic gist was that knowing that somebody else has better chances of getting in (if all other factors were completely equal) frustrates people. I DON'T WANT TO START AN AA DEBATE, but from one Princeton-bound URM to (hopefully) another, don't sweat anything you get on CC about being a URM and asking for your chances. Or...try not to. Good luck!

Wow not too many replied just as j07 said...
I think it also might be because people prefer to look at chance threads of people with comparable backgrounds to themselves so they can compare. If they weren't an U.R.M. they would have little interest in your thread. I am not a URM but I find that people prefer to compare themselves to these chance threads using people similar to them in race, location, gender, etc.

hey ya. i totally understand. i think it's easier to give people chances that have scores/EC's similar to mine too. but at the same time, i've had a lot more success in getting posts on other threads from people that aren't black or URM's. princeton ppl just don't seem interested i guess. it's ok.

im an URM and i think you have a fair shot...im pretty much on the same boat but a year yonger........playin 3 sports its rough but fun (i play waterpolo, wrestle and swim)!! keep it up

Black helps a lot, impressive scores. Sports help. If you are good enough to be recruited, you're in. GPA hurts. P.S. the black kid on southpark is named token, what's the deal with that?

yeah see i take a pretty hard courseload so i'm hoping they take that into account when they see my 3.67.
you've never heard of the term "token black guy"? it's just like the stereotypical black guy

I think you have an excellent chance at any Ivy, including Princeton and Harvard. You might want to strive for leadership positions in your sports or ECs in the fall, and of course, keep working on the GPA. Your essay is the chance to shine, and express your true self and the rich culture of Texas you could bring to an Ivy. As suggested on other messages, if you are interested in a varsity sport, fill out the potential recruits' questionnaire on the school's athletics site for each sport. If you are supported as a desired recruit, that would be a huge boost. Good luck!

hey thanks! i've already filled out the recruit questionaire at cornell, penn, harvard, and princeton and heard 0 back. i'm still crossing my fingers though.
i have some leadership positions that i didn't include on that page but i'll probably be captain of the football and track team.
in terms of gpa, should i take an AP class that i'll DEFINITELY get a B in or take the easier class and DEFINITELY get an A. right now i'm signed up for AP Span. Lit but it's BIZNATCH, so i'm thinking about just taking spanish V, getting the A, and in the process boosting my GPA. any opinions?

You are so welcome! Glad to hear the recruit quests. are filled out, and that you have the leadership positions. As for the classes, definitely take th AP class, even if you get the B they want to see evidence that you have challenged yourself with a higher level class. (Which indicates you can handle college level work.) And perhaps hit the books for A's in your other classes. They do accept some less than perfect GPAs, and if you have other hooks, such as being a recruit or URM, that will sweeten your profile. Good luck!

token, you have amazing sat scores for an africanamerican. like what everyone else said, pull up the grades a bit, and get some leadership positions, make your essays stand out, and you'll have a great chance
