Extracurriculars: Public Health Internship and Medical Observership (both in India over summer), Siemens Westinghouse Participant (probably means nothing, but whatever), Few local awards (nothing too big), Worked for a fertilizer company in 9th and 10th grade, Some community service at The Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.

Other: Concurrently enrolled in community college. By end of school year I will have taken Calc I and II, Intro to Psych., and English I there.

Teacher recs are pretty good (one is like amazing)

Councilor (or however you spell it) rec is decent.

What are my chances for:
Rice
Vanderbilt
USC

Those are all reaches, your SAT which equals about an 1860 is too low for you to consider them anything else. You should pick some safeties/matches. College of New Jersey would probably be a match.

I gotcha. I have some saftey/match schools like TCNJ, Rutgers, and stuff like that, too, and I appreciate your input. I was just wondering how much of a reach do you think each of the schools are? Thanks

Well, your SAT's would equal about a 660 Math and a 590 Writing which is respectable. Your SAT II's are very good. I'd say Rice is going to be a pretty nice sized reach. How many AP classes have you taken? You have good EC's. For Vandy and USC I think it will be close, they are reaches, but it wouldn't surprise me if you got into one of them. If you have demonstrated interest in the schools, ie: interview, visit them, etc. You are in the ballpark. I would write each school a heartfelt letter talking about weaknesses in your application and how much you want to go the school.

Yea I mean ever since I could remember stand. tests have always been a problem. I didn't know that ACT score was that low; I probably should have stuck with SATs (I took it once @ the beginning of last year and got a 1900) and practiced for them instead.

I have taken AP Bio and AP Chem and recieved 4s on both tests.

This year I'm taking AP Psych, AP Physics C, AP Human Geography, and AP Economics, and with my Calc I and II and English I background, I plan to take the AP Calc BC exam and the AP English exam. Currently I have over a 90 in all of the classes mentioned.

I would say you have an average chance of getting into Rice (25-30%). Being from out of state helps, and hopefully you have a good essay. You have a better chance at Vanderbilt.

My essays were pretty good--nothing stellar since the topics on the Rice app. were unique, and I couldn't really give it my all due to time constraints, and I actually did send each of these schools letters explaining my freshman year grades, supplemental recommendation letters from the Dr.s I worked with in India, and a typed out resume.

Good point wrzstiav; I thought like it was by percentile--for example the 28 was like 90%, but I believe there is like a chart online that determines this (forgot where it is though).
