goBears- don't be bitter, if you were good enough you wouldn't be so worried about it. I used to feel sorry for people like you but now I am just tired of all the complaining, get over it it is a fact of life. Accept it or obsess on your own this site is for talking about more important things.

I like your chances at Stanford as well. Nothing can ever be guaranteed at Stanford, but it's looking good for you, and being a minority definitely helps. Have you looked into any other schools? I would recommend...

University of Washington (probably a ton of merit money)
Cal-Berkeley
UCLA
USC
Vanderbilt
Emory
Duke
UNC
Michigan
BU or NYU

good luck

thanks for the input guys, appreciate it much. have began reevaluating... my list consists of about 1 safety and many reaches. what could i do for a match?

Dont let people fool you...youre in pretty much anywhere. Great job all around, you deserve your choices!

You have a very strong chance. Plus, let's be realistic, you're black and want to study comp sci/engineering (with good qualifications); that can only help you. You will most likely get in.

Last time I checked, harvard is NOT required to use AA in admissions, yet it does anyway, as do most top privates.

goBear, blacks in this country do NOT have the same opportunities as whites. period. Ever been to an all-black inner-city high school? The graduation rate is <50%. If a black person graduates from that with stats even close to Ivy stats, thats amazing. That student broke the mold of what she/he was supposed to do.

Do you want our top Universities to be all asians and foreigners? No. Affirmitive Action makes sure that the best students and people get into Ivies, not just the best statistics

habdragon, you made a fundamental error in reasoning in that post. Those blacks in inner city high schools are not limited to opportunities because of their race, but because of their socio-economic status. They simply cannot afford the prep books, tutors, etc that their wealthy counterparts can. If a black person with a wealthy background from an elite private high school graduated with Ivy stats, I wouldn't be surprised at all.

its amazing how FFX1619 just asks for his stats and his thread becomes an affirmative action debate. FFX1619has great sat scores, gpa and EC's. he's worked hard and deserves to be recognized as a strong candidate, period.

goBears, habdragon08 you both are morons. affirmative action is a piece of $#&$, but thats the way it is. did your mom tell you life is fair? and why the ^&%$ are you saying this %$@^ in this ^$%#ing thread, FFX1619 is smart, period. %$&#ing $%^holes. Social_Pariah, i guess you haven't heard of a public magnet school, shows a lot of socialeconomic status right there. those so called inner city blacks don't take advantage of the opportunities. unlike FFX1619. I know black kids from the worst neighborhoods taking advanced calculus as a junior in high school. you don't need to pay for prep courses, there is a thing called library that lets you borrow books for free. affirmative action is a piece of %^$#. don't ever defend it. but that should teach you a lesson in life.

maaaan...you took my spot.... i'm black with a 1400 grrrrrrr............. (haha just joshing)

Pimp, I am a moron because I'm complaining that something is unfair? Yes, I guess the slaves in this country were morons for complaining against slavery, you ignorant dumbass!! I agree FULLY with Social Pariah's point that it should be based on, if anything, a person's socio-economic status. White kids can be in inner city schools also, you moron, while black kids like Carleton Banks are rich beyond reason, going to prep schools, and laughing their ass to the bank while they get in with lower SAT scores than everyone else!!

I'm not directing this at all towards FFX1619. He is very intelligent and has great stats. Yet he should not be favored or disfavored over an applicant of the same calibre, simply because he/she is white, asian, or a goddamn eskimo!!!

don't tell me this, try to change it, like the slaves did. maybe you could start another civil unrest. by then, i'll probably change my stand, i'll even respect you. but as of 7:22 12/3, you are still a retard for blasting this forum. damn, its antagonistic cowards like you that the world is the way it is today.

first of all i would like to say that FXX has great stats and has a good chance in a lot of places. however, in response to some of the people here, accepting someone based on race and notion that forced diversity is good is ridiculous. that is completely unfair. and people like habdragon should seriously consider what he is saying. "all the universities will be filled with asians and foreigners"?!?! thats straight up racist.

It is a fact of life, quit whining. goBears, if i get into the ivies over you i will not cry one little bit, I will be proud to be taking the spot of a spoiled, stupid, selfish ignoramus. I'll make sure to send you a post card.

"accepting someone based on race and notion that forced diversity is good is ridiculous." how would you like to change that szeatam? there are too many black people for you to do anything about it. they are more powerful than ever before. it is what it is. if a white person makes a racist remark, he will get fired for it. if a black person does it, he will be praised. That's the way it is.

Wow, its a fact of life SEWcurious? Don't let the glass ceiling for blacks in the job market hurt your head! AHHAHAAHHAH. Now THATS a fact of life. I guess you lose. U ignoramus d-bag.

lol you guys are complete morons...
Now back to the topic. It looks like you have a great chance of going to any school you wish.

You said your list is mostly reaches. Now I don't know if any schools exist that are reaches for you, but assuming that we call Stanford, Princeton, etc reaches, some good matches for you would be:

-Duke
-Cornell
-Northwestern
-Rice
-Carnegie Mellon

The only factors I took into account were selectivity and the major you mentioned. I think those are good choices, and I believe you are a very likely admit at each of those plus the "reaches" you mentioned (Stanford, Princeton, & MIT...Cornell I listed as a match).

Also consider Caltech & Penn, although they might actually not be quite guarantees.

Black Male
SAT Reasoning: 2240 (770 V, 760M, 710 WR)
SATII's: 800 Math IIC, 740 US History, 730 Physics

Shouldn't even have bothered listing the other stats. I can't make up percentages with such accuracy as theoneo, but 100% in sounds about right.

You have a good chance, but nothing is for sure at Stanford.

Our school valedictorian got rejected with 11 5's on her AP exams, National Merit Scholar, 1570/1600 on SAT I, 800/790/770 on SAT IIs and a bunch of ECs.

You have a good chance, but it's not definite.
