Ethnicity - Asian/Pacific Islander
Reside in Fairfax County, VA (Grading Scale = 94-100 is an A)
Looking to major in Computer Engineering...

Currently looking at Virginia Tech, Penn State, Purdue, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and UVA just cause i'm asian and its the "asian" thing to do.

VTech looks like a match, as does Penn State. UIUC and Purdue i'm thinking are reaches, and UVA just isn't happening.

Thought about CMU but... their ECE program is ridiculously hard to get into and I just don't see it happening.

If anyone else has any more suggestions for colleges I'm all ears =)

Yeah. i'll bust your head if you don't get accepted into UIUC. Also, purdue, vteach, penn state are your safeties.

Hey dude, I am also appyling to similar schools as you. I have similar stats (GPA a little higher and SATs a little lower). I also want to do engineering although mechanical or chemical. I think you will get in virginia Tech, Purdue, and UIUC and Penn state but CMU will be a major reach for ECE, as it is almost as selective as MIT for that specific major.

How will not having the ACTs effect me?

Also - should I apply engineering or just undecided and switch in?

Pretty set on UIUC ...

^---- bump

For UIUC, what is your Class Rank to go with your 3.4. They only care about your percentage ranking for some reason. If you are in top, let's say, 13 percent, I'd go ahead and apply for Engineering at UIUC.

^ bump

so how screwed am I if I havn't applied yet (roughly two weeks before the rolling admissions deadline)

You should be an in at Purdue.. UIUC is obviously going to be a little bit harder...

I would hurry up and get that app in -- but don't botch it, either. Go over everything with a microscope (not literally, figuratively) and get that app in!

I'm a lot like you. Asian just like you. Live in DC though.
UW GPA
9th - 3.1
10th - 3.6
11th - 3.4
12th - 3.5

1400 SAT (720 Math, 680 Verbal)

I don't know how many of the schools actually calculate the 12th grade GPA though.

Only one person applied to UIUC from my school last year ... and my school doesn't rank.

How would the ranking thing factor in, and does being the only person (or one of few) applying to UIUC from my school help at all ?
