As I just said, project poise and confidence, don't go silly bugger "I'm soo dead" on a public forum. You're not dead and you got to play the game as it is played.

Okay.. thanks

Do viewbooks from Andover and Deerfield usually take over two weeks to get here? I got one book within a couple of days and the rest within a week. Do they know that they don't want me just from my inquiry? lol

Also, where can you get free (or cheap) SSAT practice tests. The Princeton Review book only has one upper level test. Would it be helpful at all to take the lower-level test as well as a confidence-booster?

tommiester, the boarding schools send out viewbooks quicker to people who they think they would be an asset to their school. If you do not get a viewbook within a week, cross that school off your list. The school will reject you. I hope you don't get too many later than a week. good luck! lol Just kidding touche!

We requested a few back in May/June from schools we knew we'd be interested in - zap! arrived in a day! DVDs and everything. (you can tell some of these schools have large endowments just from what they're willing to spend on overnight mail postage!)

As we look to a few other schools to round out our options, I'm finding its taking a week even two to get material. Just chocking it up to the fact that it is probably the time of year when they get bombarded with inquiries so they have a little backlog.

Really? I received viewbooks from Taft, SPS, Andover (letter, they said they would send a viewbook in late September or October), and Exeter really fast. (within a few weeks). Exeter took about two weeks and Deerfield's took about one week.

How do they know that I would be a "great asset" to their school? Is it my location that's making them send them to me really quickly? If this is true, that could explain Taft's quick delivery. Only 2 people from Michigan attend the school.

A few weeks isn't really fast so I think you're hosed!

Jonathan - it's sarcasm! Read the end of prepparent's message

"lol just kidding touche!"

You sound like a great kid but if you're going into a bs situation you need to develop a taste for sarcasm...

I'm a representative for 20 major boarding schools. I report to my schools everything that is said on this thread. JK, they know you well..........lol
JK, you will have to finish reading everything I typed. I was being &*&^%^&%

haha my bad...lol

sorry.

wow I feel stupid lol.

JK, your resume is permanent record, time to change you call sign.

Well, (cue exasperated sigh) since Andover and Deerfield apparently don't want me, then I guess I'll have to settle for what I've got. Thanks for the info. Are there any answers to my previous question (about practice SSAT tests)?

Don't bother taking level 1. I remember someone posting a link to practice ssat tests. Perhaps someone else on this board remembers what that link was. It is very likely that you will do extremely well because of your SAT scores. SSAT is similar to the old SAT with the easier questions.

But I didn't take the SAT. I only took the tests in 5th and 6th grade when they are tests produced by Johns Hopkins.

What?.. .

Tommeister -- Here is a link that NewD posted on page 2 of this thread: http://www.testprepreview.com/ssat_practice.htm . I just assumed that you took the SAT and not the PLUS.

thanks for the link. Can I take the SAT for Johns Hopkins this year?

If you are in 8th grade you can http://www.jhu.edu/~gifted/ 8th grade scores will not stay on your record when college admissions time comes around. However, you might want to give it lower priority to SSAT prep, interviews, applications, etc.

Yeah, I think that I will just concentrate on the admissions process.

tommeister -- On second thought, it might be useful to you to take the SAT if you have the time and energy to do it. Because you did so well on the PLUS, you may be one of the top scorers for your state again. It varies by state, but some top scorers received scholarships to take classes at some local universities in our state. You might want to contact CTY to see if that is common in Maine.

What are the ranges for the accepted students to the top schools -- SPS A/E, etc. If the SSAT scores are in the low 600s, (Still looks good when compared to a national ranking of all kids... :) Should the test be taken again? Apps have to be in by Mid Jan. but I think it's too late to retest... Advice? thx

BTW... Current school is outstanding and we expect excellent references....
