prepparenttoo, were you child's scores in the 25th percentile? If so, they should be taken again. It's not too late to retest; schools specifically say that January is the last date to take it. For St. Paul's School, Phillips Academy, Phillips Exeter Academy, their average scores are all in the mid-90s.

Next test is Jan 6th. after that another isn't until Feb. 3rd. We'll just have to see if the 02/03 is too late or not...

You could sign up for the January; I'm pretty sure Febuary is too late. What were your child's scores?

low of 620s to high of 656 for the 3 sections

What are the percentiles?

St. Paul's average SSAT score is 88%.

21st %ile on the low 49th on the high 25th overall...

Sorry, Jonathan. I was thinking of a different school. But I know that Andover and Exeter are in the mid-90s.

Prepparentoo, if you child's scores don't increase quite a bit, it may make it quite difficult to get into schools like AESD. You may want to consider some schools with lower SSAT averages as well.

I just got my SSAT scores. They totally suck. I'm definitely not applying to St. Paul's now.

Verbal: 50%

Math: 31%

Reading: 50%

Overall: 40%

I'm still going to apply to Greenhills (local prep school). I will obviously get rejected from St. Paul's with these scores. Fortunately, the admissions officer at Greenhills said the score on our SSAT is the least important factor in the admissions process.

I don't understand how I did so well on the practice tests and so poorly on the real thing. I really thought I did well on this.

Oh well. There's always next year...

Too bad the schools don't look at the national percentile rank. It's a lot higher. V: 86%, M: 92%, R: 90%

If you want to sign up for Jan 6 SSAT - do so TODAY! Today is the last day for LATE registration!

Well -- That's the thing... the percentile ranks you amongst everyone who took the test. Everyone can't do 90% better than everyone else. (Statistcally impossible :-).

I'm not certain if the %tile rank is over multiple test dates or just with respect to the students that took the test on Dec. 9th I think there were quite a few very competatitive, (and smart), students taking the test on Dec. 9. So the curve, if you will was skewed towards the top end of the spectrum.

Today is the last day for late registration to the Jan. 6th. Think it over.... and good luck!

The SSAT percentiles are from data from the past three years.

My mom said she isn't paying another $100.

What do you guys think my chances are at Greenhills (70% acceptance rate) and SPS now?

Refer to page 1 for other stats.

Yes.. I see that now in the example provided in the report.

In your situation did your number right vs. wrong closely match the numbers from your practice exams? It's an interesting question as it pertains to whether or not the practice tests closely match the difficulty/material from the live test...

man, that sucks jonathan1, sorry to hear about that. did u take the psat by any chance? there's also the ISEE for testing- thats really too bad about ur score, u sounded like u had a good chance for SPS.

For Greenhills, I would say you'll probably still get in, especially if SSAT scores are the least important factor. Are you quite sure you mum wouldn't let you take it again? Or perhaps you could pay for half or something? It might be worth another shot. If you could them into, say, the sixties or seventies, you might still have a shot at St. Paul's. If it's your dream school, I would hesitate giving up on it unless you must.

Apparently your percentile is based on scores in the past three years from students of your same sex and grade.

Thanks.

I think my SSAT score may be a sign that I am not reading for a school like St. Paul's yet. I think Greenhills is just what I need right now; a challenging academic atmosphere and a place where I could learn more to prepare me for St. Paul's.

Greenhills is an amazing school; with dedicated faculty and a variet of courses that I'm interested in. I will definitely apply to SPS next year.

Thanks for your suggestion, (or obvious presumption), either way. We are shooting for a better -- much better score on Jan. 6. 2 weeks left and lots to do.

Well, Jonathan, if you feel you're not ready, then you shouldn't apply. Just work hard at Greenhills and try to prepare yourself.
