I was pretty set with my list of schools- michigan, ga tech, texas, Illinois, lehigh, rpi, and something like Stevens as a safety (I'm from NJ) with my 2120 sat score.

Then I got my latest sat scores, and got a lot higher than I expected. A 2300! So now I feel like I maybe have a shot at MIT or Cornell or Stanford or cal berkely ect. Is this that farfetched?
My gpa is 3.7, and my school (magnet) does not have weighted gpa or ap classes, while all classes are honors level or actual college classes.
I've done a lot to push the engineering interest along. Summer stuff at uvm, notre dame, and rose human. Then there's extracurriculars like science Olympiad, science league, math league, and nhs.
I also do human rights club, saddened club, club baseball, and this thing project terrapin- it's like a conservation organization that a teacher in our school runs, and we take care of and try to preserve the habitats of an endangered turtle species.
Uh, I think I hit it all. So yeah, it is totally unrealistic to hope for MIT? I know I still have to take the subject tests, but I am confident that I can get near an 800 in math ii, and around a 750 in physics. What do you all think? Thanks!

Thats sadd club, not saddened. Damn autocorrect…

what was your math subscore, specifically? (SAT I)

Oh yeah, sorry. 780 math, 720 reading, 800 writing.

Go for it dude. Your GPA looks to be a little on the low side, but since its a magnet school I imagine it’s pretty competitive.

Your ECs look to be in place. If you have the chance between now and the time you apply, do/make/participate in something spectacular.

Make sure your essay is beyond amazing and that your teachers have enough information to write personal and informed LOR.

Definitely apply to those reaches, you look like a strong applicant.

By the way, did your SAT I go up in all three sections? Keep in mind most schools superscore. If it went up across the board, it doesn’t matter, but if it didn’t, you have over a 2300 as far as the schools can see :)

As far as I can tell (and I’m not sure about this) engineering programs are typically more competitive for admission than arts and sciences programs.

So when I said “apply to those reaches” it was not a negative comment on you, those schools are reaches for pretty much everyone, especially for engineering…

Yeah they all went up. But I was happy with it. I’ll take an extra 180 anytime though. I only expected a 2150ish

And yeah I feel ya. No worries!
