Chances at top schools

I think that you will be accepted to all, but I think you will be waitlisted at Stanford and MIT. IMO, Duke and Cornell will give you loads of money. Good luck with the search! You're definitely one of the most competitive applicants I've seen on this board.

oh you have a HUGE CHANCE to get into all of these
my brother got into MIT with mostly B's in Math

thanks for the feedback

how do i get less "typical asian nerd" without making it look disingenuous...? I mean, its what i like doing...

Also doesn't U Chi like kids like me

Of course UChicago likes kids such as yourself, but that doesn't suggest that they wouldn't aim for a more diverse crowd so to speak. Trying to get away from the typical Asian-American male stereotype would include joining a few sports teams, maybe interning at a Fortune 500 business, or working somewhere that can enhance a career other than math. For example- maybe interning at a journalism location for you maybe a Boston newspaper or something. And for the sports teams, you don't necessarily have to play a varsity sport, club and intrmural sports would definitely work in your favor.

sweet...

I work at a Law office - a big one actually, there on the back of the phonebooks in boston... basically i prepare the cases for the attorney's and deal with their medical records and medical bills too...

Frisbee all the way... BUDA! <-- (Boston Ultimate Disc Assoc)

I just want to say... it certainly hurts your chances that you are asian. Just make sure that your essays are creative and NOT stereotypical.

how does one write an asian stereotypical essay?... like immigrating to America?
well... that wont be a problem for me, i was born in the US

U Chi's essays are crazy

Like if you heavily referred to your dream to become any/all of these professions: engineer, doctor, scientist, lawyer, or teacher.
Like if you heavily referred to your love of any/all of these activities: math, science, math club, science bowl, math competition, stringed instruments

Now if you somehow communicated to UChicago's people that you hate science and want to become a writer, that's not stereotypical.

Yeah, no essays about piano/violin. Or about the exhilerating feeling you get after solving an integral. Also, steer clear of saying "it has always been my dream to attend your elite university". All of that stuff just sounds Asian. Make fun of something, talk about politics, be FUNNY, do something that people usually don't associate with your average asian.

Arg, how many USAMO qualifiers would you say is Asian?

Geez that's not generalizing or racist in the least

"Yeah, no essays about piano/violin."

O crap!!! You guys know typical asian too well. My personal statement I wrote for my guidance conselor was about violin... lol

I'm 100% asian nerd...
