teacher rec's will be stellar

i might write my essay on how im a reserved academic oriented thinking person inside of what seems like i should be a big jock and tough person

if that topic seems worthless, please say so.

schools (please put accept/reject)

Brown
Dartmouth
Duke
WashU
Notre Dame
Stanford
Cornell
Northwestern
Boston College

BC and ND are both matches. And your safety is............

You need at least two extreme safeties.

And regarding your essay, yes, I think that's a bit of a silly topic. You might want to find something a little more intellectual than writing a paper on how you're an intellectual. ;)

don't go on bragging how you're not really a big tough jock- or that you are one. instead, show it to admissions officers through a meaningful experience, not by just saying you aren't. and make sure you include coach's recs!

You're class rank and GPA isn't at Ivy league quality, and neither are your test scores. You have almost all reaches, with the exception of Boston College, where you are a solid match. Your list should only list one, MAYBE two reaches, and you have 7. Try getting a reach, a couple matches, and a safety. Pick one of the schools you listed, as well as Boston College. Indiana University would be a great safety for you, it's a quality school, and you should be in line for some scholarship money there. I know you're looking to move out, but it's not a great idea to have a safety be a prestigious OOS school that admits below 50% of their applicants.

I think that you'll find you can get in with lower test scores since your from the Midwest, though it most likely won't be enough for some of the stratospheric schools that you've mentioned. Are you looking to compete in wrestling or football in college? That's another factor to consider. If you're not looking for DI or DII competition, some smaller schools (unlike the Ivies or Stanford) might be a better fit.

I'm guessing that you're pretty socially conservative based on some of your extracurriculars. Perhaps you should consider some schools with a religious affiliation. There are a good number of schools that are both small and conservative that would place you near the top of the class (and perhaps allow you to get some merit aid, always frosting on the cake) and would allow you to compete in DIII athletics.

I think your essay topic has potential especially if you've got funny examples/anecdotes and root it in something deeper like what its taught you about your own prejudices and stereotyping.

and as far as safties go, I'll apply to U of Evansville (legacy and where I live), but i'm not really sure where else. nowhere seems to stand out? I checked out wabash but they were too small. IU is too massive. Pudue is..i dont know. anyways, please leave some more feedback?

Teens for Abstinence-(2 years team captain)
For god's sake... if you're trying to present yourself as a midwesterner looking to break out of small town life, blah blah blah, don't do something so sickeningly wholesome.

That said...

Stanford
Crapshoot, like everyone else.

Dartmouth
Duke
WashU
Cornell
Northwestern
Low Reach

Brown
Brown is the most random of the Ivies. Statistically you're a match but I don't know how the Midwestern jock thing will fly. Then again, it could be a plus.

My test scores are porportionally a 1460 on the old scale..

Not exactly. A CR of 720 plus a Math of 670 puts you at 1390. Sorry. As far as your list goes, a top 25% private school un-hooked white male 1390 gets you rejected at almost all. It's a recipe for disaster. Your Evansville safety legacy is solid (and it's a good looking school).Drop down some in selectivity till your stats and scores match solidly the stats and scores at the seventy fifth percentile. In other words, that bottom twenty five percent ? Doesn't apply to you. It is reserved seating for somebody else. The 25th percentile is your base. The 75th percentile at a selective school makes you a reasonable candidate.

I'm sorry but those schools only take students under 6 feet and between 120-190 lbs. I guess you're at a loss. :)

Seriously though, your grades/rank are pretty low which will be detrimental to your application since they're usually the most critical part of your application. Are you being recruited for wrestling and/or football? If you are, then that will help immensely. It might even compensate for the GPA/rank. Take the Math IIC by the way; it has a much better curve.

"For god's sake... if you're trying to present yourself as a midwesterner looking to break out of small town life, blah blah blah, don't do something so sickeningly wholesome."

pyro... HAHAHAAHAHA. that was the funniest comment i've read on her today.

Please look at Colby as another match. I think that Conn College would be a pretty solid admit for you - one of the val's at my son's hs will be attending with a pretty amazing merit package. You might also look at Vasser - bit of a bump since you are male, very good school.

You will want to talk to your GC and see if he/she has statistics on what students (GPA, class rank, and SAT) from your hs have been admitted to which colleges. Some hs's have established relationships with colleges - a top 25 may not necessarily put you out of the running, but its not a plus at the most competitve schools.

As others have suggested, if you are able to apply as a recruited athlete, it is going to help your chances.
