Chances at transferring to Virginia Tech?

In high school, I had a 3.7 weighted GPA; IB diploma recipient; SAT scores were 720 in writing, 570 in reading, 510 in Math [low, I know, I'm terrible at math]; I was editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, had a lot of extra curricular's; and got a recommendation from a prominent VT alum. I was waitlisted as a senior and then VT didn't accept anyone off the waitlist. :'(

I went to UMass Amherst for my freshman year and I really did not like it. About two months ago, I applied to transfer to VT. I got a 3.6 GPA my first semester at UMass and I was involved with one club (I didn't have a lot of free time while trying to juggle all my homework). I am really proud of my application essays and I got a recommendation from an old teacher, who is also a VT graduate.

I REALLY want to go to VT next year.... and I will be crushed if I don't make it in.
The thing I'm worried about, is that I called the Undergrad office the other day and a lady told me that since I haven't taken a math course since senior year, my chances at getting into VT go down significantly.......

Is this really true?? I've taken all my other required gen-ed courses EXCEPT math because all the math classes were either full, or conflicted with my schedule.

I'm really worried and have already taken the first step to signing up for a summer math course at a local community college. Please help me/offer any insight or advice! :/

I know it’s to late to do it now, but in the application did you explain the math situation?
I am in a similar boat. I attend a small liberal arts school that does not offer many of the courses that Tech wants to see. If you explained it, I don’t see why they would take that against you.

I didn’t initially explain the math situation but I sent in an application change request telling them that I’m taking math this summer. I hope it all works out in the end, for both of us…
