I’m a prospective international applicant from US to UBC for the 2020-2021 school year. I have dual citizenship from the US and Turkey. I am planning on applying to International Economics major in which some resources say that would be a part of Faculty of Arts?
GPA: 3.95 uw nearing 4.0 as I had only gotten an A- in my freshman year in a semester long class/4.3-4.4 w I had taken three APs so far which were all during my junior year.
ACT: 28 at the moment, but will be retaking it in September. I am shooting for at least a 33, fingers crossed!
AP Scores: Lang(4), USH(4), MacroEcon(5). MicroEcon(4)
Senior Year Schedule: AP Eng Lit, AP Statistics, AP Comp Sci, AP Calculus, Spanish 4 Hnrs. Senior Seminar, Dance
ECs: Co-founder of the MUN Club at my school, Captain of Extemporaneous Speaking on my Speech and Debate team, Class delegate to the Student Council, member of the National/Science/English Honor Society. I also interned at a Foreign Trade company in Turkey for a month this summer.
Volunteering: I did some volunteering here and there such as teaching my neighbor’s kid and his friends violin free of charge for about 5-6 months, and tutoring some of the local’s kids occasionally on school subjects. I am not really sure how I would be able to incorporate this kind of information into my application though.
Hook: Lack of Turkish community here; my parents not knowing enough English and me having to stand and take care of things on my own subsequently. I moved to the US about 4 years ago, in the beginning of 8th grade.
You have an excellent chance. Do not expect any financial aid. Your “hook” is not a hook, especially at a Canadian school.
