Despite Cal and UCLA having similar admissions stats, some students who get accepted to UCLA are rejected from UCB (from what I've seen on college forums, etc.).

Well of course. Not everyone who should get in does, thats why all top universities are really crapshoots; however, CAL has for a few years already switched to holistic admissions and a UCLA rep told us that LA will now also adopt it as well. Extracurriculars and essays are probably what divided those who did get in and those who did not and you still have to leave that percentage of the crap shoot factor.

Floppy, with ur stats and exc, unless in ur essays u came off as a cocky @ss, you will get into either LA, CAL, and very possibly both. I, like you, had a 5 page long thread and it really just gave me anxiety, especially hearing different views from different ppl. Wash U, Cornell you have shots but no one really knows what it takes to get in unless you are a professional athlete or daughter/son of a president. Also, i hope you got a rec from ur UCI internship to prove that you did work there.
