Chances at UCs would be very much appreciated :)

Hi, I'm Jessy, and I'll be a senior as of monday.
I rank 7th (if not higher after last grading period) in my class of 585 students at my school in Southern California.
My UC GPA is 4.2
Weighted is 4.55 (I thought this was lower but this is what my councelor told me)
and Unweighted is 3.91

I've gotten a single B between the two semesters each year, so straight A's one semester and one B the other. It kills me. Lol.

I've taken the following AP classes
AP Biology (5)
AP World History (4)
AP US History (5)
AP English Language (4)
AP French Language (teacher was bad so I skipped the test)
and I'm taking AP Calc AB, AP Gov, and AP Art History next year.

I've also taken a handful of honors and accelerated classes.

I'm a four-year varsity track and field runner,
and played tennis last year (JV), and will probably play varsity this year.
CSF all four years
Scholar Athlete Award (Only offered Junior and Senior year, was recognized for a 4.83 GPA at end of first semester junior year)

I have 109 community service hours consisting of :
75 hours campaigning for the Democratic party my freshman year
a handful from coaching track and field for the Special Olympic atheletes
and the rest from taking care of autistic classes during parent/teacher trainings at a nearby elementary school. I plan on getting more involved with community service this year.

Not big on clubs, although I should be...only one year of Interact Club freshman year.
But I WILL join and WILL be commited this year to a few. Maybe I'll even start one :D
Any other suggestions to raise my ECs?

My SAT scores aren't so high, but I'm retaking them come fall, going to actually study and hope to get a 2000+ this time around.
1830 (590 math, 590 reading, 650 writing, 11 essay)
600 Math 2, 630 Biology subjects. (Going to take other tests if possible come fall).
ACT: 29
And, I think that's it.
I want to either major in molecular biology or marine biology
Thanks !

With a higher SAT score and a good essay you have a good chance at the top UC’s, Id say your prob into UCSD and lower with what you currently have, maybe even UCB or UCLA already.

I think you should have no problem at any of the UC’s except berkeley and LA. If you improve your test scores I think you do have a shot at those two. One cool thing about the UC’s is that having such high grades can make up for tests scores… they have a whole formula online that I would look into. Sine you have a 4.2 I think you don’t need very high SAT scores so I wouldn’t stress exactly, but definitely study and retake.
Also I would try to work on EC’s a little… maybe spend the rest of the summer doing volunteer work or something?

Malibu-- Ahha, I’m one of those kids who’s freaking out about college and already starting her personal statement, and adament I won’t get in. So hopefully all that worry will pay off.
Thanks for the info ! :)

bobdylan–
My summer ends tomorrow
My school went on a year-round schedule, and between summer assignments and a college trip, I haven’t had volunteer time D:

bump D:
sorry xD

id just say you need higher SAT scores for the higher tier UCs but it looks like you have pretty good chances :]

thanks
so much :)

I also forgot to mention I was admitted to a Biology seminar/day thing, and was only one of five people from my school that got to attend. We had two hands on labs, and spoke with world reknown biologists at the salk institute. I was first on my AP bio teacher’s list to go ;).

I think if you raise your SAT scores, you have a shot at UCB and UCLA. As of now, I think you have a pretty good shot at all of the other UCs (UCSD is a high match though)
