chances at uf?

So nervous about getting in to the university of florida, any idea of my chances?

I'm ranked in the top 8% of my class, out of 645, i have a 3.8 gpa, a 4.6 weighted.
My sats are 610 verbal, 650 math, not fantastic but its at the top middle 50 percent of what they accepted last year.

I've been in marching band for 4 years, president of social studies honor society, in foreign language honor society, national hs, historian of band and a club called stand.

I volunteered at the local hospital, summer camps, and various other things so i have about 560 service hours.

I have two sisters who go there, have taken a total of 8 APs and honor courses in high school, and wrote a good essay.

any opinions?

Hmmm... are you instate or out-of-state?

If instate, I'd say 65%-80% chance.

If out-of-state, I'd say 15%-20% chance.

According to their freshman profile, something like 85% of freshman with a 4.0 GPA or over were admitted. And below 4.0, the rate dropped dramatically. So if your UF GPA is above a 4.0 as you suggest, I'd say you have a good chance. But with UF, you never really know. I am pretty nervous about my chances as well, and my stats are pretty similar to yours... good luck!

This is an unrelated question, but isn't UF using the writing section of the SAT this year? I think I remember hearing it somewhere. Does anyone know?

Yes, they are using writing this year.

Did you compute your GPA the UF way? (+.5 for honors, +1.0 for AP)

If so, I would agree with AT9's probabilities.

yea i am instate, and writing total i have an 1860, and yea i heard the writing is somewhat more looked at than in past years but not weighed very heavily, it could only put you at an advantage.

Not so good.

Good chance, probably 75% or so.

How much of a disadvantage are you at if your writing was only a 540? I got a 1300 when combining CR and Math (630 and 670 respectively).

I'm not sure why, but I just couldn't crack the writing test.

I don't think it will make a huge difference as long as you're GPA isn't leaving you on the brink.

well my guidance counselors and the uf representatives that came to my school said it can only count positively for you, so a 1300 is a really good score for the sat, so dont worry about writing too much.

and i know writing was so difficult for me, i just wasn't getting it.

Sweet. I'm glad they're using writing this year because I have an 11 Essay.

i came from a similar background as yours with lower sat scores so they offered me the summer b session instead of fall. but you end up coming back in the fall with everyone else. i actually found the summer very helpful. if you can rock your essays i would say you have a very good chance of getting in.

probably 85%

good luck!

I think you have a good chance
