I had visited Bama during a football game once and absolutely loved the school. I had never really considered attending because of the cost of out-of-state tuition, but recently I received a letter from them regarding my status as a National Hispanic Scholar. They are offering NHS's enormous scholarships, so I applied. What are my chances (oos)?

Hey I heard that you had to compete for the Alabama scholarship too, but I don't know much about it, what say you
National Hispanic Scholar
AP Scholar with Honor
National Honor Society
32 ACT
No class rank
3.5 GPA

You are correct: straight-up admission to Alabama is a cakewalk, but trying to get some merit money from UA is about as competitive as trying to get into some the top tier schools mentioned here. I think you very good for at least a full-tuition scholarship...don't hold me to it, though.

Mr. Trissell:
Your email was reviewed as an appeal to the 3.7 GPA requirement for the National Hispanic Scholar scholarship package, and based on the inaccurate information listed on our web site regarding the lack of a GPA listed at the time Jeffrey viewed it last week, Jeffrey has been offered the scholarship. Jeffrey will need to apply to The University of Alabama if he has not already done so. He needs to complete the admission and scholarship application, submit the fee, an official high school transcript and official test scores - either ACT or SAT - by the December 1, 2006 deadline.

Please let me know if I answer any additional questions you may have or if I can assist you further.

Thank you.

Yeah, they've unofficially offered you a scholarship. I'd ask for it in writing before going through the trouble of applying, though applying to UA is in many ways a formality. Congrats on the scholarship.
