What are my chances at getting into these schools: USC, Berkeley, University of Chicago, Northwestern, Any Ivy, U of Michigan, UCLA, and Stanford

your grades/rank are definitely awesome. however, definitely retake the sat's for a shot at the ivies, stanford, and northwestern. your ec's are pretty decent too, with good bball involvement. however, what is your passion? it's hard to tell from your ec's, so you might want to work on that

My passion, as of right now, is really basketball, yet, when looking to the future, I want to be involved in business. The dilemma here is stay close to home in California, and I want to stay close, where I will not likely play basketball at the schools I want to go to (not quite quick enough, an inbetweener on positions) or focus on academics and try to get into an Ivy, where I probably can play basketball, yet will not be close to home. What is a good goal to set my SATs for to get into the Ivy League Shools / Stanford?

if you're a recruited athelete, then it's a different story. but for an average admit without the hooks like legacy, urm, etc, a good sat's range is above 2250 to give you a good edge over the other applicants

USC is a match/likely for you. I know quite a bit about it, if you have questions pm me.
As for the Ivys, over/around a 700 on each section is pretty standard.

bump......

Dude, your into USC

I got in with a 3.96 UW, 4/17 rank (tiny rural public school), 1960 SAT, a 710 on chemistry was my highest SAT II score, but I did have a 33 on the ACT, so take that again.

Other things I had are
4 years FFA including being chaper president
4 years varsity football including co-captian senior year (not recruited, no one wants a 190 lbs center)
6 years science olympiad, including 7 state medals and 2 state team titles
Coached a science olympiad event three years
NHS three years
Math team
QuestLeadership semi-finalist
QuestBridge finalist
Good recs, don't really remember what my essays were about, but i didn't freak out over them, just a couple drafts

But this is the crazy part: I have no AP or IB credits. I'm not even exactly sure what IB is. My school only offers 2 AP classes, both english lit, and I'm taking the AP english lit test this may

Didn't get any fancy scholarships, but did get a University Grant for over 34 grand a year. Money's money.

And I made the engineering honors program. And i got waitlisted at Stanford

So don't freak out. Unless you knife the president's tires, your in

Your school definitely has grade inflation....

You kidding? The science teacher I've had for 5 classes had a kid win the ISEF in 1986. she's not that dumb.

USC, Chicago, and Michigan should accept you. However, try to work on your EC and ACT.

Insecure101 you are definately right..bad thing is for me is the fact that others have benefitted while I seemingly have not, as every one of my grades as been between the 97-100%, the grade inflation has not helped me in the least bit. Thanks for all the advice guys, if i can get my SAT up to a 2150-2200, I am thinking of early actioning to Stanford. Good idea, or no?

if you get your act/sat up...id say youre probably in at umich if you apply early...

messedupmikey:

UCB/UCLA: Match (out of state)

What's your UC GPA?

As of now (from what I've seen from 2006-2007 admitees), UCLA & UCB are reaches. Kids got rejected with 2100's OSS. As for the rest, you have a good chance at USC and the others are also reaches IMO.

ru guys on crack

Chicago's average enrolled SAT is a 1440, this isn't a joke, check their website, check collegeboard

that means, their average accept is probably around a 1480

don't tell someone with a 1380 they are a lock

Assuming you can boost your SAT scores even just a little bit...

USC - 90/100
Berkeley-90/100
University of Chicago - 75/100
Northwestern- 70/100
Any Ivy - at the upper tier ones, prolly like, 40/100(harvard, princeton, yale), lower tier, 65/100
U of Michigan - 90/100
UCLA - 90/100
Stanford - 45/100

Does a program like EPGY from Stanford help your admission, into a university or that certain university, or not?
