Chances at USC, Vandy, NYU

Hi everyone! I'm really hoping to get accepted to either USC, Vandy, or NYU. I'm from a public school in Ohio - and I'd like to live near/in a city. I'd like to thank you, in advance, for taking the time to read this.. it means a lot!

Here's my stats.
-ACT: 28 composite, 29 superscore. 34 eng, 27 math, 26 eng, 29 reading, 8 writing.
-SAT: 1220, 1840. (not sending these, other than submitting them directly in the com.app)
-GPA: 3.3 UW, 3.66 W. (yep. not too proud of that one..)
-Class rank not reported.
- a 4 on AP Psych exam

Gpa is not as high as it should/can be because I take PSEOP courses (college courses at a local college - NOT Community college, so it should be transferable, but these courses do not play into my GPA..)

Taking difficult classes - Calculus, Adv. composition, lots of honors, three years of Latin, etc.

EC's
-Started my own film production company (app is generally centered around this; essay, my major, the school I'm applying to, etc)
-President of Model UN
-VP of Mock trial
-worked at the Cleveland Clinic (work experience, not community)
-professional Acting experience at the Cleveland Playhouse
-Community service - began my own initiative to "clean up" a local community
-soccer team 4 years
-Captain of JV soccer
-founded the first men's vocal group at my high school. also was a part of Jazz Choir (elite choir) for 3 years.
-NHS secretary

Thoughts? I'm applying to over 25 schools, including UToronto, USC, NYU, Vandy, OSU, etc. Overall, I have schools from all over the country (and Canada) ranging from the top of the US news list to the bottom.
Looking for some idea so that I can be realistic about my options. After all, your parents/friends/guidance workers are all somewhat biased, so I want to hear the cold hard truth from you guys.
I know these three are stretch schools…but who says a kid can't dream?

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this!

Awards:
Yale book award
NHS invite
Oustanding Attorney Award (Mock Trial)
Oustanding Witness Award (MT)
Superior Delegation Award (Model UN)
Honorable Mention (Model UN)

Perhaps, if possible, readers could post schools that they think I should take a look at. This would also be a great help! New to CC and I’d love to get some feedback. Thanks!

could you post the full list of colleges? ill chance them all for you if i know about them.
In terms of OSU you might have a shot im not sure though, In-State does help however.
Sorry to be blunt here but USC, Vandy, and NYU seem like they are very long shots unless you have something very special because your ACT score is too low (no school superscores ACT) and Weighted HPA is very low as well.

Thanks so much! I appreciate your candidness - not looking for someone to float my boat.
whew here we go!

Thanks very much! I appreciate your help. By the way - some schools DO superscore the ACT! I know Indiana Bloomington and NYU do. USC doesn’t…just fyi

oh i didnt know that. sorry about that then.

No problem! Check out this website if you are wondering if any of your schools superscore act. this site lists them all! [Colleges that superscore the ACT College Admissions Counseling](Colleges that superscore the ACT - BS/MD Admissions by College Admissions Partners)

Still would like more feedback… If anyone wants to share their thoughts, i’d be happy to hear them! Thanks

Would really like to hear from more than one person… Please post your thoughts!

U Toronto: Match (UToronto starts admitting students with 26, going higher up)
UWO: Match
Hofstra: Safety
CWRU: Reach
Marymount Manhattan: Low match

Thanks a lot, Catria - really good to hear your thoughts about UWO and Utoronto… those were the two that I was especially unsure about.

I don’t know much about the admissions process for Canadian schools; they don’t even ask for EC information… Also, I have not taken the SAT II’s which might influence my decision.

Update: I was just admitted to Marymount Manhattan. Catria - You were right! good call

I was right on the money for two students rather than one. But this is just the beginning of the chancing season.

I’d say that Tulane will be a reach. Class of 2011 had a middle ACT range of 29-32 and your GPA is a little low… Plus, with their trends it most likely went up with last years class! Good luck though! I’m also applying to Tulane!

Thanks a lot for your input, elizabeth! Tulane sounds like a great school… just very expensive, and from what i’ve heard, they don’t have the greatest financial aid. Worth a shot though. Good luck to you! What’s your ACT score?

I would remove the UCs, as an out of state student it is harder to get in than what is worth. Vandy/USC are awesome schools, but these will be very high reaches as well. If you like these types of schools, more realistic reaches would be Patriot League schools like Lehigh/Lafayette/etc. I would also apply to matches like Maryland, Delaware, and Clemson (although these are publics, they are more friendly to OOS students).

I think Miami (OH) and OSU seem like great in-state choices.
