Chances at UT Austin, Private TX colleges, and decent out-of-state schools?

Hi,
I just moved into the Houston area in May for my senior year, and have done some researching regarding colleges over the summer. During May, I will receive the full residential status required for in-state tuition. I was wondering what colleges may be a good fit for me regarding my statistics. In particular, I was hoping to get chanced at UT Austin, because I am not sure
where the balance strikes between my decent ACT score and my horrendous GPA. I am looking to go into the finance department. If you could also suggest any potential matches, that would be great.

Probably makes UT Austin an unrealistic reach. It admits about three quarters of its frosh from the top 6% rank Texas applicants. The remaining quarter is through competitive admission among Texas applicants below the top 6% and all out-of-state applicants.

However, other Texas public universities may be automatic admission for you. For example, Texas A&M admits if you are in the top 25% and have a 30 ACT (with at least 27 in the English and math sections): http://admissions.tamu.edu/freshman/admitted . But note that if you are set on majoring in business, it is a capacity-limited major, so there is a chance of being admitted to Texas A&M but not the business major. Changing into the business major after enrolling requires may be difficult (minimum 3.5 college GPA): http://mays.tamu.edu/undergraduate-enrollment-plan-2016-2018/ .

I’m applying tonight, do you think it’s too late?
