ACT plus writing: 33
SAT: 1530 (790 CR/W, 740 M)
SAT literature: 730
SAT US History: 770
AP Calc AB: 5
AP US History: 4

Junior year classes: Honors English, AP Calculus AB, AP US History, Honors French 3, Honors Bio, Stagecraft
Senior year classes: Honors English, AP Statistics, Acting Intensive, Stagecraft Intensive, AP Physics, Philosophy, American Electoral Politics, and I’m gonna be a TA for my Calc teacher from last year.

Extracurriculars: I am very involved in my school’s technical theater department (so much so that I have little time for anything else). I will have stage managed 4 productions and been a student director for 3 by the time I graduate. I’m an assistant stage manager for a community theater this summer. Outside of theater, I participated in Mock Trial for one year, and I’m on my school’s High School Quiz Show team, which has made the televised round both times I’ve participated. Also, I’m doing an internship at a casting company in August.

Awards/Achievements:

  • Placed a year ahead in math in 6th grade
  • METG Excellence in Sound Design Award
  • Sound Award at my school’s One Acts Festival
  • Directed the 1st place winner in Kennett Alliance for the Arts Fall mini film festival 2015
  • Summa Cum Laude on the National Latin Exam for Intro to Latin and Latin 1
  • French 1 Award (freshman year)
  • Student of the Quarter in the Technology Department (freshman year)
  • Chosen to be Student Director for two shows next year (techies don’t usually student direct, and this is the first time the director’s put someone on more than one show)

I also did Barnard’s Summer in the City four-week program last month, and the professors for that write evaluations that can be used as recommendations. I had the same teacher for both of my classes, which were both film-related, and I plan on majoring in film, so hopefully that’ll have some weight. My other recommendations are coming from my Bio teacher last year, who loved me, and my English teacher who I had both freshman and junior years.

I really have no doubt you will get in. I have 3 friends at Wesleyan with significantly less impressive stats and activities than you. My main question is: How in the world did you get a 790 in CR/W? I have such a tough time with CR… do you have any tips?

@Starforward Thanks!! And I honestly have no idea, especially since I consider math my best subject. I think it’s just a curve thing, it’s harder for me to do relatively better in math but it’s easier for me to do relatively better in reading since the curve is lower. Reading has been my best section on every standardized test I’ve taken, including PSAT, PLAN, and MCAS.

@tarantinq Ah okay… Well I wish you good luck! I have no doubt you’ll be accepted at wesleyan

If you apply ED1 you have very good chance of getting in. If you wait until the RD round, the competition will be more severe and you have to realize your demographic is among the toughest to get in (rich, white, private school, etc…) Hence, work on your essay, make it sincere and authentic and apply ED1

bump?

I really do NOT recommend being a TA. That will look like you are taking the easy way out of things. Even though it will require more homework, I would strongly suggest taking another academic class - most colleges view course rigor as the most important factor in accepting students (of course, it is dependent on the school the kid went to for what they expect).

bump bump

Pretty darn good chances, I’d say. Especially if you’re applying ED.
