Hey, I'm an upcoming senior (class of 2006) at a nationally ranked public school. I'm looking at University of Michigan as a safety school...let me know if I can.

Thanks for your responses
P.S. I know I said be brutal, but please don't :)

how can ur uw gpa be a 4.21 but weighted a 4.0?

Sorry, my bad, its the opposite.
uw - 4.0
w - 4.21

not a safety, b/c youre out of state, but if you apply early enough, maybe that sat score isnt high enuf out of state to make it a safety

I would be shocked if you didn't get in.

A lot of people will tell you that timing is key, so you should apply as early as you can. But don't let that mess you up because I think the out of state/rolling thing causes unnecessary concern. I applied very late out of state (I figured I would go to Stern anyway), but that didn't really matter too much. Well, I picked Umich at the end.

I say you have very good chances. There's one thing you should know, though. If you want a chance at the scholarships, get your app in by the priority deadline date (I think late November). The merit scholarships are unbelievably hard to get, even for top students. All applicants are automatically considered for University merit scholarships, so you don't have to fill anything out separately.

Audre, your chances are excellent. But like some above have said, Michigan is not a safety. Some students with your credentials have inexplicably been turned away by Michigan in the past. I would say Michigan is a safety/match, but you really should apply to a real safety.

Thanks for all of your responses. If you have any safety schools in mind please help me, i havent really been able to find any that i like. Thanks again.

Is there a certain kind of program you're looking for? What do you want to study?

I like the sciences...chemistry or biology probably

so everyone thinks that U of M is more of a match school right? Thats good cause i actually really liked it a lot i just wasnt sure if i could get in somewhere else. My sister really likes it there, I think it would be a good match for me, too. What is everyone's favorite feature of U of M?

The only thing that Im worried about is that the weather change might be a little unnerving. Do any of you have any experience with that?

for weather purposes (lol), what state are you from?

California

Alot of the californians and even east coasters (mainly the j.a.p.s because they complain about everything) complain about the inclemencies and capriciousness of the weather. The winter isn't that bad-and it builds character.

being from northern minnesota, i'm actually upgrading in winter weather conditions

What do a lot of students do during the winter?

Study. =</p>

Of course, there's always sledding and stuff. I remember people getting busted by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) because they had taken trays from the dining halls to sled on. There's also ice skating at Yost. It does get really nice out in April, but sometimes going days on end in January and February with subfreezing temperatures can get on your nerves.

DPS sucks! Yeah there are random days in march and april when it's 60-80 which is nice. It was hilarious though this past year when on the thursday of finals week it was 80, and then saturday and sunday it snowed. All the east coast and california a$$holes were complaining, and I offered my sentiments: WELCOME TO THE MIDWEST, BIATCHES!~

I go to school on the west side of michigan, and at least 15 people get in from my school every year. From what I have observed, they really want a solid GPA. Yours is obviously solid. In the past 3 years there have been handfulls of students with 3.7+ GPAs with crappy (i mean 21-24) ACT scores who have gotten in a thousands of dollars in scholarships. One of my friends was recently deffered with an ACT of 33 and a GPA of 3.5...so, from what I see you really need a solid GPA and a good essay, i would recommend something that explains a cultural experiance you have had

good luck!
