Chances, bitte!

Illinois Male

GPA: 3.9/4.0 uw
ACT: 31 (R 35, E 32, M 25, S 31, W 11) Will WM superscore? If they do I've got a 32... (Almost no one in IL takes the SAT, as the state pays for all jrs. to take the ACT. I took the SAT with less than stellar results, so I won't report those scores to WM, if I can avoid it; will that be an issue here?)
Class Rank: 6/40 (ugh, should def. go up by first quarter next year)

Thanks for your help!

I don't think your curriculum is strong enough regardless of the fact that your school offers no AP's. Why only 3 years of German? Why no Calc? Lot's of fluff there. I think they will see your AP scores. Your ACT is very good. Your GPA is very good. No doubt you will get into a very good school. I'm just not sure about William and Mary. I'm going to say Waitlisted. I hope I'm wrong. Best of luck.

3 years is the max. number of a foreign language a student can take at my HS. Calculus is not offered, except through a "videonet" system with a neighboring HS which doesn't work 3/4 of the time--it's a joke. There are no honors classes at my HS either...just standard curriculum; I know it may be hard to believe, but I really have taken the hardest courses my school offers--doubtless any college I apply to will see that when they look at my school report. You all from big HS's just don't know how lucky you have it. You can't even fathom a place without more than 3 years of a foreign language. Wow.

"I think they will see your AP scores."
I'm confused...I said my school doesn't offer AP's ...so how will they see my AP scores if I've never taken an AP class...?

Make certain your guidance counselor explains your school's curriculum, and you had the most rigorous offered. You are correct.....many on CC have no idea that some schools don't offer AP or limited in the number offered and then it can be impossible due to scheduling, not to take everything. Wow the adcom with your essay and show true interest in the school. Best of luck.

Sorry Celt, I meant that they will see your SAT scores. My bad. Thanks for the explanation. I guess you are correct in saying that those of us who came from large high school's don't understand that their are major differences in what is offered. That said, I would make absolutely certain that all of this is explained. When I see Sociology, Accounting, Speech, Botany, etc., I erroneously assume "fluff" because I know what the particular track is for gaining admission to a school like William and Mary or UVA.

William and Mary will be interested in someone from Illinois! I sincerely hope you gain admission. As you explained in more detail, I feel that you have a very good shot. Please contact admissions personally. Ask questions. Explain your situation with regards to your curriculum even BEFORE your app comes in. Court the school that you know you want to be accepted to. My SAT's were less than steller as well. I'm an in-state male. I took the ACT and scored a 31. I did have a strong curriculum with many AP's and my GPA was over 4.0 and I was in the top 5% of a large graduating class of a very competitive high school.

William and Mary is a GREAT place to be. I sincerely wish you the best of luck. Any college would be lucky to have you.
