Now for the not just part:
I'm looking to be an engineer and was wondering if any of you could comment on the program at UR, how hard is it? Individual attention? you know things like that. looking into mechanical but that may be subject to change. Also, how is campus life?

Your changes are good from what I have seen from past posting. Of course, higher SAT scores would be better, esp. if you are interested in getting merit scholarships.

For two years in a roll now UR has above expected enrollment yield. Last year they have to ask incoming students to consider moving into triples and quad dorm rooms to accomodate the larger class. This year they accepted less but their yield went up even higher so they have another housing crunch year. They are building new dorms for next year but, unless they are planning on expanding the university, the admissions process may be even tighter than this year when you apply.

As for the engineering dept., they have the highest requirement for graduation. As a result, the students have less selectives/clusters to play with. Engineering students are assigned to specific advisors from the dept to make sure that they are taking the correct sequence of courses on schedule so as not to fall behind. I think engineering may be considered a difficult major not only because the course work is difficult but also because the load is usually heavier than someone with a humanities major. As with most engineering schools, you do not have to consider a specific branch of engineering until after the broad introductory courses in the freshman year.

From what I hear from other UR students, the professors are friendly and very open to students. Unless it is a required course for your major, you can ask upperclassmen for suggestions for good profs and courses to take. You can also stop by a professor's office to ask about a course s/he will be teaching before you sign up. It is common to 'shop' for classes, i.e., sign up for a heavy load and drop the ones that doesn't appeal to you for whatever.

There's lots going on at UR and you will have lots to occupy you. You should check out the Student Life page on the UR website to get an idea of the types of activities available.

Good luck with your SAT and ACT.

i got in ED2 this year and i had almost exactly your SAT score and i got the urban league scholarship- a merit scholarship for $10,000/year. i think you have a very good chance, especially with all of the AP's you have taken/ will take.
